timmyh: So all of that effort that has gone into creating this 'Toybox' thing should have gone into 3G coverage and relevant price plans. 2D won't have the resource to do everything.
And combine this with some cheaper Android devices.?

No... but the 50k or weeks worth of development that went into toybox could have gone into something like call plans or 3g...

I think I might have to go back to Vodafone as well. Data on 2degrees is just killing me. Even with a Vodafone mobile braodband sim that I flip in when I need to use 3G intensively, its the times inbetween when I forget to switch off synching with the 2degrees sim back in that just blow out the cost. I love the call and text rates, but I'm only using about 60 mins and about 50 texts a month, together with about 150MB of true mobile internet, all up that means I would be better off back at Vodafone.
This is not something I do lightly, it saddens me to return to the company that I have such personally poor service from in the past. But dollars count. I will join the ranks of the (I assume) few 022 Vodafone customers.
Will consider switching back should 2degrees do something compelling on the data-side.

I know of so many non/geeks who are planning on switching back... I still do not see why they do not give decent pricing on the EDGE network. I was told that they have the backbone setup, but why offer shiet rates?

They probably don't want to fragment their pricing based on where you are located. Do you remember when you used to pay roaming charges with Telecom when you left your "local zone"? I don't think anyone would want that again.

Why don't you log into the 2degrees website and find out.
And its done. Vodafone active. I'll be back to 2degrees when they switch on 3G and provided they can come up with something decent for data.
For comparison, given my calling/texting/data patterns, data on 2degrees would have needed to be no more than $0.25 per MB and I would have stayed, albeit on EDGE vs HSDPA on Vodafone. Ideally some sort of tiered data plans which could be bought as add-ons to the standard prepay would have been better.

I think this is exactly where 2d needs to head.... I realize there's all kinds of red-tape in the way, but killer 3G pricing and a selection of android devices would make this carrier waterproof.
My personal opinion is that its a bit rude, to charge customers even a casual rate to essentially browse a catalogue of products on offer....?
And the fact thats it seems to be variably compatible with peoples handsets.. almost starts heading down the Theresa Gattung path of bill-shock/calcuated failure billing....
Maybe not heading down the path... but at least glancing....
Although... nothing will ever come close to the sneaky WAP portal Telecom used to have where the "I agree" button was basically hidden and the default action was to query the "I agree" function....That stands alone as the dodgiest practice iv seen from Telecom '05
