Yep. I suspect you're right. There's some weird sh?t going on with Orcon's caching and traffic-shaping that they're not letting on about.

This sort of stuff is hard enough to get a handle on when you're on the inside.

BTW, yes, the guy in the youtube video is ... ugh ... not the sharpest knife in the kitchen.

Apologies for choosing it as an example folks!

Hi, a single TCP connection on a 180ms link (time to LA) will never get much faster due to that latency, such is the problem of living in the far south pacific.

Hence normal HTTP traffic to the US and Europe will always top out around 5Mb/s, using a download manager for downloads will overcome this as they open multiple parallel connections.

Do you know something we don't, Daylo (if so, please enlighten us!), or are you just trolling ...

Just trolling :)  I'm a convert. As in ... totally 'converted' away from Poorcon.

Here's your chance, then, to become a (somewhat) reformed troll! ...

So who did you convert to, why, and how much do you pay now (and for what)?

e.g. woosh, for better peak performance, $1500/month, 50kbps down/20kbps down, 5mb/month data.

I am still getting great speeds since posting this. I'm starting to think someone form Orcon has monitored my thread and made a change to my account, or because I logged one with Orcon saying my phone line was noisy they have made changes without informing me. Too much of a coincidence I reckon.

It is interesting how - and it seems to be somewhat universal i.e. not necessarily just Orcon - if one has a grizzle about something, sometimes things immediately start improving.

Then when you ask "what did you do? whatever it was, it fixed it, so can you do more of it?" they say "didn't do anything - must be your mind playing tricks on you".

Yes, and when SoundDude posted this about my connection "Hi Steve, Your connection was migrated over to a new EUBA service yesterday." and I asked how do you knwo and what does that mean? I never got a reply so I think they did something...perhaps my Orcon service fault made them fix something up. Anyway, I'm happy with my speed for the last 5 days I just hope it doesn't dip again!! Then I'll move.

EUBA is a different wholesale plan type, so that is a change that can have quite a difference.

Not quite right there cyril7 as I got over 10mbps the other night to LA on an 180ms ping and as soon as my registration email pops into my account for speed test I'll put up the png for the test
