I bought mine from Ascent and I am sure there are other people using it with VOIP providers other than WxC. I might try the suggesting from GKJones of setting up a free 2talk account, letting the auto provision go through and then change the username/proxy etc.

Can you tell me what is the full version of your firmware as this may shed some light on the issue.

As for 2Talk, I set up an account but found that auto provisioning with them only covered the SPA2102 and PAP2T, and neither seemed to actually provision my router. I went into the help system and manually configured it based upon the flavour of the Linksys models, keeping my iTalk specific settings, but that still gave the save symptoms.

gkjones: hey we may be dealing with this after the horse has bolted but Xnet (world exchange ) offers a totally locked down solution provided by them and unless you are able to totally reset that router/ata whatever h/w then thats why its never going to go. Can we assume you have reset this devise and d/l the latest firmware?

Yes, I have reset the router but cannot even find any firmware on the Linksys site, so it looks like your stuck with whatever version it comes with.

Yeah that is a fair call but it isn't worth the extra $30-40 a month. For $400 a year I am happy to be without a landline for a while until I sort this out. But I guess it depends on the person. I use the landline about once a week so it is no inconvenience for me.

Xnet will do a VFX line for about $11 per month.

see this for all charges. Its more than 11.50 a month if you actually want to use it.
They should get your system going though assuming its a config ussue with the provider and the equipment they support.

Yes your right and we do support the wag310, however sar10538 is a customer of slingshot not us, if the crusty was with us the wag310 should work fine, it is not the best router out there as it was caught up in the changeover from Linksys to Cisco so not a lot of fixes and development work after the initial product was launched

The OP came from VFX, where the device did work correctly. They are now on Slingshot.

At the end of the day life is a case of getting what you pay for. It's well known that there is very little support for iTalk and I personally get numerous emails every week from people begging to get their devices working correctly because of the lack of provisioning. Unluckily for them I'm not Slingshot support.

Not sure what you mean by more than $11.50 if you actaully want to use it - like anything, some calls are free, some are charged.

I can't figure out why you think Xnet should support the OP. He has left them, and gone to a competing provider, who on the face of it, is providing a lesser level of support.

Yeah that is spot on. I weighed up the money saving and more data of slingshot vs worldexhange and the former came out ahead. Getting the VOIP line going isn't a major issue for me (fairly obviously seeing as I have had it for about a month now without it working), but it would be nice to have it sorted.

I should have some time this week to call up slingshot and see if they can help me out. Will let you know if I make any progress.

A little update here. I still have not been able to get my normal phone plugged into the WAG310G to work but it may be related to yet another stuff up by slingshot (again showing their ineptitude).

I managed to get the number to work with both the software VOIP application they link on their website and along with an app I downloaded for my iPhone. However I could still not call the number from any phone, I would just get the no such number beeps. So I called up Slingshot and apparently the number was never ported from World Exchange and has now been disconnected. So now I have to change phone numbers!! Although I can still make phone calls from the "disconnected" number with caller ID showing my old phone number. I really wonder if they know much (if anything) about how to run a proper VOIP service.

What a joke Slingshot, you really need to sort your internal systems out. It has been stuff up after stuff up with this change over. I am very happy with the price and quality of internet connection but as already said many times in this thread, you get what you pay for.

What a joke Slingshot, you really need to sort your internal systems out. It has been stuff up after stuff up with this change over. I am very happy with the price and quality of internet connection but as already said many times in this thread, you get what you pay for.

I believe they sub-contract the VOIP services to a third party so there is little knowledge in that area and they are unable to fix things either. Basically unless you buy the ATA from them, which comes pre-configured, probably, from the third party VOIP provider, they off no support period, even if you purchase exactly the same ATA device privately. I have spoken to them at length and they do not have a clue about the WAG310G problem and just keep passing me onto Linksys support who, in turn, just push me back to Slingshot saying they are the only one that can help. I then bought a WAG45GP2 but could not configure the VOIP settings as it was locked out and went down exactly the same loop with Slingshot and Linksys. Unlike the WAG310G, the WAG45GP2 does not have the option to reset the voice settings back to factory settings so you are stuffed if your in that boat. I have spent ages on the phone to Linksys trying to get this fixed as surely they should know how to hard reset their own piece of hardware. I then ditched the idea of an all in one and went back to good old Cisco 877W ADSL2 router and added a WRT400 for VOIP services BUT that kept on locking up leaving me able to dial out fine but leaving the line engaged to incoming callers. The only cure for this was to disconnect power from the WRT400 for a period and then start it up again. I thought that the Linksys brand would be OK as it has the Cisco parent company but I don't think I'll bother with them in future. So what have I done now, I use a cheap old Thomson Speedtouch all in one router which seems to work great.

Seems that the simple days of setting up your broadband router are over and now your at the mercy of your VOIP provider (if you use one) enabling/allowing you to configure your unit even if you have the skills and full details of what to setup. I'm sure that all the Linksys gear I'm using would work great, and be well supported, by X-Net but, and call me tight, I'm loath to pay out more for a service that I'm already supposed to be receiving as well as being charged for calls when I supposedly get more than enough for me for free already.

Another example of ineptitude with Slingshot is that I recently noticed that I was paying out much more for my services than I expected. I had qualified for the 6 month half price naked DSL with free included VOIP, normally $80 a month but I'd get it for $40 a month, thereby saving me $240. Not only had they been charging me full price for the naked DSL they were also charging me an addition fee for iTalk VOIP. I'll give it to them that they did fix the situation without quibbling but I wonder why it happened in the first place. Maybe I should seek out a better deal with better support although I'm less than half way through my current contract :(

The exact same thing happened to me. From talking to the CSR it seems all their billing system is handled by an external company and I think the base billing profile for naked+iTalk was setup incorrectly from the start. So instead of putting a change in the system straight away they had to raise a ticket to get it fixed. The CSR told me it might take 2 months to change so just credited me 2 months of the $13 or so that I was being charged. Just another example of the really slack processes this business relies upon.

Well I got my new phone number sorted and now people can call me (well when I have the VOIP program running on my laptop of iPhone). I'll have another crack at getting the WAG310G to work but from your above experiences I am not holding my breath. Maybe I will just buy a SPA2102. Are they compatible and easy to setup?

do you want to do fax? only the spa2102 does fax. if not and you have a working router then go for the pap2t as its super easy to get going and if you go with 2talk or world exchange they offer auto provisioning so it works pretty flawlessly strait away. Buy new!

Oh ok, my bad. No I don't care about faxing. All I want is to be able to use it as a normal phone, well after I tell everyone my new phone number (because slingshot are incompetent). Lucky I didn't buy an SPA then!

Edit: Looks like you can buy them on ebay for around $30NZD landed. Any reason why that would be a bad idea? Seems the cheapest here is around $60 on trademe.
