That would account why 30 minutes ago I was getting email sync errors on my Orcon email account.

Like others, my Internet access returned BUT without landline phone support. Hope the poor engineers have ways of finding and fixing the few old geezer's left with phone connections!
Good job, though, to get us back online so quickly.
Would this affect some EFTPOS terminals?
Getting hounded by one customer (essential service) who still has internet but both their EFTPOS terminals are having transmission errors in the last hour or so.
Their EFTPOS provider just told them to contact their IT support. 🤬

DDoS attack, not cool

According to the Herald article
"All Apple Pay or payWave options have been taken offline in the internet crash.
Those making electronic transactions on their phones at supermarkets have been left without means to pay.
Kiwibank has posted on Twitter that there is a major problem with internet banking."

Yea saw that but this is for normal EFTPOS transactions.

For Paymark EFTPOS see if you can connect to http://direct.qa.paymark.co.nz/ (also check machine is getting DNS as PC/mobile phone may be using DoH/alternative DNS to the LAN assigned). I assume the machine has been power cycled.
Stuff fibre reports all is well, but I still can't connect to my fibre connection. Back to Spark 4G...

Thanks, that's working OK from their computers.
Terminals have been rebooted. :)

@Moderator Not sure why you locked down my separate post. It was a different topic about the DDoS.
According to a Vocus spokesperson (https://www.stuff.co.nz/business/300398873/denial-of-service-attack-takes-down-nzs-thirdlargest-internet-provider) it was a denial of service attack and it's all fixed now.
Not sure I agree with that as kiwiwebhost is still down (where I have my work email) and they're part of the Vocus group.

Good to know that it's not just me. They updated their post on Facebook saying it was resolved an hour ago and I was thinking maybe I was experiencing a different issue now.

As I've pointed out to others that is complete and utter bollocks. Just standard NZ Herald trash reporting.
Apple Pay / payWave were totally fine. What wasn't fine in these cases were either customers who have a Vocus related connection, or their payment gateway is on Vocus. Banks have separate interconnects behind the scenes and to the different payment networks.

No need where the discussion as a whole is here.

I have people working around the country and several parts of New Zealand are still not working. Latest I heard was Dunedin, Rotorua and Tauranga, Wellington not working a few minutes ago. I heard from people in Nelson who haven't had a problem.
Keep in mind a DDoS doesn't get fixed like a cable fault. Depending on who, why and how, it could keep going until they lose interest, get stopped or get what they want.

Perhaps that was the source or target...? Anyway it is sounding like a DDoS mitigation mechanism was triggered which mistakenly brought down the majority of the network.
