Just so you guys know, 2Degrees has said that they would be doing a live blog:
dasimpsonsrule:@2degreesmobile Anyone going to be doing a live blog of the press release tomorrow?
2degreesmobile:@dasimpsonsrule , sure will, it starts at 9.15

From what I gather from that, they will be doing it via twitter

Yatey: Great way to send a promotional email about your new product with a Typo in it.

It happens. And it's just duplicated words, not really a typo.

Funny about the typo, I've done that before having read the same marketing stuff over and over and over and gone to press and then ooops.

The thing I don't get about the chinwag SIM's is why not have them all printed out and put in envelopes ready to post, then just dump all them in the post the night before... They have had the list together long enough, they can't still be printing labels??? I don't wanna wait a week :-(

Well, I guess I'll have to pop down to the supermarket...

You pay a lot if you dump things into the post stream like that rather then spread out and sorted by postcode.

If the SIMs aren't active then I don't know why they weren't posted prior to launch so everyone would be good to go on day 1. Wouldn't that make for a huge launch = good PR?

That was what I was thinking too. Don't know why - but maybe they're still doing cell site testing and they don't want people being able to use the SIMs?

Good point. Why wait for people to receive their Sims in the mail when they could send them all out at least a week before the launch for every one to be ready to go at launch?

my guess would be an overload of their system which would lead to bad PR on their first day/week

If their systems cannot take a load of 50,000 customers then yes, that would be extremely bad PR.

No, that would mean 50,000 (minus 500 geeks), making calls to the helpdesk about why their SIM isn't working.

What a nightmare it would be, I couldn't imagine anything worse for a launch than gaining 50,000 customers, but have them all disconnected.

Whole bunch of info here.

2 Degrees

2degrees is a brand new mobile phone network, to really turn up the heat in New Zealand's mobile market. With 2degrees, you will get real choice for mobile calling and texting as well as simple, fair mobile phone pricing - making it easy to stay in touch with the people you know.
Warehouse Stationery is proud to stock a range of new 2 degrees mobile phones and SIM cards ? available in store and online, PLUS you?ll be able to top up at any of our 46 Warehouse Stationery stores!
Why join the 2degrees network?

2degrees want to put you in control - and give you the freedom to use your mobile phone whenever and however you want.

Mobile Phone Numbers
- You can bring your existing mobile phone number with you to 2degrees! If you are on another mobile network in New Zealand and you bring any 021, 027, 028 or 029 number to 2degrees, you will get $5 credit FREE!

- Because 2degrees is a new network, there are more than 10 million new 022 numbers up for grabs. 2degrees is giving you one free chance to change your mobile phone number to something a bit more personal e.g. 022 2255726 (022 Call Sam).

- To swap over to the 2degrees network and keep your number or change it to something more personal, simply visit www.2degreesmobile.co.nz and register for ?Your 2degrees?. If you require assistance, please call the 2degrees Customer Care team on 0800 022 022. This process usually takes 24 hours.

Coverage
- The 2degrees mobile phone network coverage is great ? with coverage of 97% of the places that people live and work in New Zealand.

- Customers with Mobile Internet capable handsets will be able to use data across their national network for browsing the web or applications like Google Maps, Facebook, Bebo, Stuff and many others.

Payment Options
- With 2degrees you have control by paying in advance for what you plan to use there are no unpleasant surprises and no contracts!

Topping Up
- You can top-up your 2degrees mobile using a voucher bought from any of our 46 Warehouse Stationery stores. Customers purchase top-ups in-store for $20 to $100 (or any $10 increment in-between).

- All top-ups on 2degrees are ?magic?, which means you get free stuff when you top-up!
Other services

- When any 2degrees SIM is activated, Caller ID and VoiceMail Box services are included, at no additional cost (retrieval costs apply).

- You will be able to roam internationally to the majority of destinations popular with Kiwi travellers.

"Magic" top ups eh? Hmm.
