I've noticed an occasional weird hostility on Geekzone towards posters who have problems with unfair trading practices from businesses, together with a generally poor understanding of consumer protection and contract law. Whenever someone has a complaint there's a bit of a tendency to side with the business. I've sometimes wondered if there is a higher than normal proportion of small business owners here.

Probably, there is a good representation of business representatives on Geekzone which works both ways I guess.

I would however say that they majority are not business representatives and deal in facts.

In this thread the problem is not black/white and needs common sense applied on both sides.

The customer is not always right but without customers you wouldn't be in business so you had better treat them well or they will go elsewhere.

On the subject of 2 degrees and unfair trading practises, I wonder how far away the ComCom can be from giving them a giant smack on the wrist, given they are offering a $XX first year $YY second year contract just like TrustPower.

From memory there ad is much clearer so should be ok. The trustpower one had the second year in small print

The Trust Power conviction dated from 2015 advertising, not the current campaign which is advertised very differently.

There's a small segment of users here (and unfortunately this is a common pattern across geek forums) who appear to pride themselves on having reading comprehension levels of your average, impatient child. Even worse is when such people inevitably attribute derogatory motives and behaviour to people with legitimate concerns about a company (for reference see someone's post about MikeB4/others creating "so much drama"), often despite other, independent users going to considerable effort to help people understand the issues.

People, you can have your opinions but not your facts: if you can't bring yourself to say something nice, at least don't resort to unwarranted insults.

I have noticed it too allio and it happens more than occasionally.

You have to wonder why they come in on the side of the companies - are they employees or subcontractors?

dejadeadnz has given them a good smacked bottom though and it's good to see - not looking at anyone steveon and co.

Can't understand why 2D allowed this post to drag on so long before resolving - particularly given they jumped in early asking for details.

Good on them for coming through in the end, but greater than a $290 hit to their reputation, me thinks.

I have noticed that too from some users. I think it is partly due to quite a few people on here working retail, within the tech sector or operate their own businesses. But everyone has different opinions, and just because people disagree don't make them right.

I don't mind people disagreeing as it makes for healthy debate, it's just the self righteous tone many of them use when doing so.

My wife did cancel three days early on the fully paid contract. The bill for early termination of $290 is in her email today

Oh this is just ridiculous. Post on their FB and give it to them. Based on your last post, they had obviously agreed with you a solution that was acceptable to everyone and should stick with it. 2Degrees is absolutely not doing itself any favours here.

We agreed to waive these charges on this occasion and have been in touch with @MikeB4.

I can confirm that 2 Degrees have credited these charges. I will say on behalf of my wife thank you very much 2 Degrees. This episode is now closed and we can say will still view 2 D very favourable and will use them in the future should we need to.

Well done 2 Degrees and the great 2 D staffers that privilege us with their presence here.
