My ADSL1@Xtra connection had 6500kb/s - 7200kb/s download transfer rates.

Thats more then you/me currently have with Orcon ADSL2.

znakedwrx: Guys, stop waisting your time!

Didnt you read what Duncan from Orcon said ?

Duncan Blair/Orcon: "As it has been mentioned in this thread already (not by me), no residential broadband subscriber has dedicated bandwidth. If you really need a 10Mbps international pipe I am sure that our business team would be more than happy to quote you on it, but I can assure you that it will run into the thousands of dollars per month."

In other words: Even you have ADSL2 (latest blabla) and such great line connection, forget about getting good transfer rates outside New Zealand.

Be happy with what you have OR show us MORE money ("thousands of dollats per month") to join 21 century internet club :)

I remember a day when i was happy about goverment decision to unbundle internet in NZ, but now when i see the situation today i think that we actually didnt get any benefit out of it, but we know who actually did :)

Before i joined Orcon, i was on Xtra (adsl1). Xtra connection speed was way better then Orcon today.

So for all of you guys who think ADSL2 at orcon will bring you far better speed your answer is here:

"As it has been mentioned in this thread already (not by me), no residential broadband subscriber has dedicated bandwidth. If you really need a 10Mbps international pipe I am sure that our business team would be more than happy to quote you on it, but I can assure you that it will run into the thousands of dollars per month."

Hmmz now when i have read this again and again, i feel like we were missled ?
Before MAX/MAX came out - the story was If you line quality is good - you will have MAX download rate - and it was like that (on XTRA adsl1)

Now with Orcon -  ADSL2 - Line quality is good, but international download rate are ***limited*** coz Orcon is SMALL ISP with NO INTERNATIONAL BANDWIDTH CAPACITY and instead getting ADSL2 (like we were promissed)- our download rates are ACTUALLY ADSL1 speed (even more slower then adsl1).

Since orcon advertises ADSL2 (latest blablabla - join the fastest blabla) - we actually have >ADSL1 !

They didnt tell us we will be on ADSL1 ? They didnt tell us about limiting international traffic ?

Or am i wrong ?

If we were living in France - we would already have a protests on the streets and we would go after their heads! :)

Just an idea :P

1/10 go back under the bridge.

I somehow doubt that any ISP sets aside 10 megs of bandwith aside for each user. Why? Simply because never ever will all their users use ALL of that bandwith at the same time. Not even your favorite xtra. Last time I was with extra my speed never went above 100kbs. Now with orcon I can get upwards of 500kbs.

Now. I got an email from orcon telling me my fault was fixed. Anyone else get a similar email? I havn't tried gaming yet this evening, so can anyone else confirm the lack of 5k+ pings?

Im not noticing a speed increase. But i am noticing a definite ping decrease.

While its been at least 800 the last few days (and often over 1k and sometimes several k), its now at 400, was 200 odd earlyier today.

ADSL2+ download speeds have been equal or worse than ADSL1 for the last 4 days, same applies to ping speeds.

Currently I am getting zero benefit from the upgrade.

I live in St Heliers, Auckland and got ADSL2 on thursday last week, apart from a brief window of about 8 hours decent performance reaching nearly line maximum for Auckland, it has been dreadful.  It can't even keep up with YouTube videos now, whereas before it would be fine.

Something is up, and I think they aren't admitting it.

Traceroutes and pings show significant packet loss when traffic hits the Global Gateway upstream. Routes via Asianet appear fine.

i posted earlier at between 6:30 and 6:40 pm and speeds were slow then but this is just rediculas on all of the international tests my upload exceeds my download speed i dont know what Orcons techies are doin but i wish they'd hurry up because this isn't what im paying for. and before anyone gets on their high horse about dedicated bandwidth per user i dont expect 10mbps but i do expect something close to my connection speed

Bleach?

Fred

I read bleach, not watch, but in saying that i think i have the first 100 at least eps from before i gave up on the anime and went to the manga.

Granted that is only one of many, i could list them all but that would be somewhat off topic... feel free to PM me though >.>
