quickymart:So will the Orcon/Vocus brands disappear, and they all become 2degrees? I don't think they'd keep them both running forever.
Didn't they already announced that they were going to be 2 degrees https://www.2degrees.nz/media-releases/mark-callander-to-lead-merged-entity
Combined entity will be 2degrees yes. But will they keep any of the Vocus brands in market (Slingshot, Orcon, Flip, etc) and run a multi brand strategy the way Vocus do now?
I could see a Spark-esque move to have a "premium" brand and a "no frills" brand, but equally I could see a push to really consolidate around that well known 2degrees brand and leverage that. I don't think they'll keep all their brands in market.

You'd have to ask which brands have the best reputations for which part of the business they're in...i.e. would they be best to have 2D mobile and a Vocus-branded ISP?

Does this statement "Under the 2degrees brand, Kiwis will have access to mobile, fixed line, and wireless broadband services as well as competitive energy services." read as if the 2degrees brand will be the only one and it will sell all of those services?
Particularly as this is a really good point:

I think there are too many brands under the Vocus (Orcon Group) umbrella at present. Collapsing everything under 2degrees would make a lot of sense, and then perhaps launch a value sub-brand similar to Skinny in the future.
Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat APAC as a Technology Evangelist and Portfolio Architect. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.
Not a fan of 2degrees to be honest. Despite their mobile network especially in rural areas being a very distant third best to Spark or Vodafone they have the same or worse pricing/value than the big 2. Currently on Orcon mobile which is a MVNO running off Spark, I'll be changing providers the moment they switch to 2degrees mobile network.
Also after going through 4-5 ISPs over the past 10 years, they were the only one from memory that had a surcharge for credit/debit cards which isn't clearly stated when you sign up.
@Woofjeb - who knows. I suspect that rollover plans on the way out. Maybe they'll 'grandfather' them across. Maybe they'll just do a 'x months free' promo to migrate over to a "modern" plan. Maybe they'll just kick folks across.
Fully agree with @openmedia - way to many brands. They'll probably want to simplify to one or two... Slingshot or Orcon and 2D would be my bet. They'll probably want to have a 'prosumer' brand and potentially a budget focus.
The problem in my mind with 2D is their pricing. 2D does tend to work in most areas I go to although some areas have weaker signal... I'm prepared to tolerate that if the pricing is competitive. The moment that they start 'price matching' (eg. pricing goes up), I start looking at coverage + customer service.

Their pricing isn't competitive at all as it is. Urban coverage is fine however rural and 5G coverage is way behind VF or Spark.
