Hi all, we have switched our network on in Hamilton and will be doing some optimizing and fine tuning over the next few weeks.

I must be right on the fringe (Newstead) at the moment, if I leave my iphone by the window I get 4 bars EDGE but soon as I move it I lose the signal. My workmate's one seems to get stuck on "Emergency Only" (hes got the Ideos X5)

Please make sure if you have any issues like this you log a ticket with 2degrees care either via phone or PM on geekzone with your exact street address. You may be on the fringe or there maybe something the 2degrees engineers can do to fix it up for you.

Done via website.

Drove through today, got 3G signal from about Rukuhia, eventually dropped back to Voda just south of Ngaruawahia. Seemed fairly solid signal although you'd expect it along SH1

Tried a speed test from Te Awa Mall (Te Rapa), looks pretty good but the network wouldn't be under much 3G pressure:

How did you manage to get such an upload speed? fastest I've ever achieved is 380kbps on 2degrees.

I wonder if salty could give us a run down on how the roaming works. What reason is there for disabling roaming in 2 deg locations is it technical (bouncing between roaming and not too quickly is bad?) or just so people on a mobile broadband plan don't get surprises?
Also, how is roaming disabled? Do you have to tell voda which particular sites to block your customers from being allowed to connect to? Or is this something you can control on the fly as in voda notifies you of every cell movement and asks for permission?
And how does the sim know what networks it can roam on to when overseas? I believe the sim contains a list of overseas networks and order of preference but this must be updateable over the air? How do overseas users get notified of your new network and be able to roam onto it without fiddling with their phone?
