Snap having the large majority of its customers on the fritz router (very good) is a large part of why their network performs so well in the netflix and truenet results.
Your router is everything, and a cheap router isn't going to cut it nowadays with UFB, so good to see they are still firm about it.
It also keeps their support simpler too.

ioquatix: It looks like to use the new plans you HAVE to buy a new modem even if you have an existing one. I got told this was because of support reasons, but this has never been a problem in the past and my existing modem negotiates a faster connection speed than anything else I've tried. They told me I just need to keep the modem on site for diagnostics!?

Digging the new prices but saving $5 a month only to pay ~$160 for a modem is pretty annoying.

I really really hope that is not true.

From the FAQ in the email from them.

Q: Do I need a new 2degrees Modem if I change to a new 2degrees Broadband Plan?
A: If you have a Snap supplied modem that is less than 4 years old, there is no need for a new modem. If you use a modem that wasn’t supplied by Snap or is dated, then you’ll need to purchase a new 2degrees Modem for $149 on a no term contract, or one will be included on a new 12 month contract.

Paul1977: The $15 VoIP line is disappointing, and I'm in the same boat as everyone who doesn't make national or Australian calls from their landline.

I have a landline for one reason: to receive calls from elderly family members who have a basic landline and will be charged for calls they make to mobiles. I suspect this is true for many people who still have landlines.

This is exactly my scenario.

Current plan is $95 including land line for vdsl - (57mpbs down/10 up) Have been getting 200Gb on a term contract which ends in august so I go back to 80Gb which will not be enough.

My 2 degrees mobile is on the 19 prepay plan so to get the $10 discount I need to pay $10 more on the phone plan to get more data and mins which I don't want or need so my plan costs will go up to 114 per month.

I'm currently paying $95 for unlimited Fibre 100/20 and VoIP phone. I'm currently on a 24 month term with a $10 unlimited special price, so think I will have to change to a new plan to retain the unlimited at contract end - which will mean $114 for the same thing. That's a 20% increase.

No point in mentioning the $10 pay monthly discount as my mobile is with Spark and paid for by my work.

I can't help but feel that the prices have increased more than they should in order to subsidize those who get the pay monthly discount.

The pricing you're getting at the moment was a really sharp deal! So you're welcome to stay on that for the balance of that promo term - you don't need to move. Old old standard pricing for that service was $109/m - in the new world the pricing is $114 but now includes unlimited NZ & Au landline calling, so a lot more value.

Snap/2deg may perceive (or at least claim to perceive) landline calling as value, but given a significant number of people have mobile plans that cover their calling needs I doubt many people will find it of value.

I pay $75/month for 30/10 and a phone. Under the new plans that's $84 - but $69 if I don't want phone. A phone isn't worth $15 to me regardless of included minutes.

I was considering increasing speed and cap, but the "plan upgrade" on the website doesn't give me that option - maybe I'd need to join the new plans first. $99/month for 100/20 and unlimited data is pretty great value though.

Yeah, I think they've missed the mark with the phone. It's like an all you can eat BBQ buffet at a vegetarians convention.

I appreciate that my current pricing is very good.

But as a comparison with the new pricing - the equivalent Spark plan is $5 less, they may not have unlimited national and Australian calling, but for me that is irrelevant as I would never make use of that. So for me, Spark is better value (from a strict price point approach).

Provisioning must still being worked on. Received a text saying plan change had completed (text ended in '??**') but speeds still same as old profile and phone still working.

Connecting to UFB? Go with Bigpipe and use this link for free credit!

Really happy with the new plans. Was previously paying $150 per month for Snap 200/200 fibre, and separately paying for a 2d on account mobile plan. Will now be paying $129 per month for the same fibre plan. As well as getting another Fritzbox. (Previous one went to my parents, as they didn't want to pay for one to sign up to Snap. And would have gone elsewhere otherwise.) Sure I had to sign a 12 month contract, But previous 2 year contract had approx 9 months left on it. So only 3 months extra.

Wanted to post this to counteract some of the negative posts. And have now signed up for static IP. So effectively a $19 per month saving, While getting a fritzbox and a static IP.

I'm currently locked into a Slingshot contract for ADSL until nearer the end of September, but I am on a 2degrees mobile plan, and have been wanting to get Fibre, like forever, so with the $10 reduction these plans look sweet!

Question is, I have heard that it can take a while to get Fibre installed (1 month+?), so if I signed up now, is that allowed? I mean, if there was some crossover (having an adsl connection, and fibre at the same time) for a short time that would be ok by me, if it was allowed/possible?

Or alternatively, any chance 2degrees could send around the heavies to Slingshot's office to get them to drop their early termination fee with only a 1 1/2 months to go? ;-) After all, we're basically family... I wrote the "officially, unofficial Usage Meter" for Snap back in 2009 :P

I have a friend who is on a water meter, he has to pay $200 for so many public meters of water.
They use less than 1/2 their allowance.

Imaging his surprise when he learned that they were going to increase the cost by 50% but double his allowance.

Unlimited calls is like that, unless you have the need, there is no value.

NZ calls, well I can't use up my 400 minutes on my cellphone plan.
International calls, we use Skype , FaceTime , etc , not just to Australia but worldwide.

Giving people more of something they don't want/use at a higher price is not value, it marketing.

AND, if you have a spark cellphone you can use 1GB of data a day with the spark wireless hotspots.

We used this HEAPS when we went campervaning. Parked up near a phonebook, made a cup of tea with some nibbles, and spent time doing Facebook , sending photos to people, email, FaceTime chats and I even put in a couple of hours of work over VPN.

In many areas the wifi is also MUCH faster than 3G/4G.

For me the value of a landline is almost entirely in being able to receive calls from (mostly older) relatives without them having to pay for the call. The rest is having slightly higher audio quality than a mobile on the couple of local calls I make a month.

I currently have 3692 available minutes on my rock-bottom $29 2D mobile plan and I never call Australia. I'm not going to sign up for a $15 product containing benefits I'll never use. I'll either do without a phone line or stick with my current ISP, who offers a lower price for unlimited internet and a basic landline.

Hmm looks like provisioning is still not working. Just got a bill for my next month of service... on the old plan at the old price...
