So I prefer analog phones in my home I have 5 and they work fine if I plug each one directly into my genius modem. I was wondering how/if possible to patch into my existing phone jacks and activate them all via an analog line run from my genius modem analog phone port. I have identified the old copper line and the main connection point to all jacks in my house (in the attic):

It seems the orange/orange white connect to the entire house. Is there a method by connecting them to the genius analog port to then power all the existing jacks? I guess worst case I have to put a 5 way phone cord splitter on the genius modem and rerun multiple wires?

The first thing you need to do is rewire things so the jackpoint your modem is connected to is fed from the incoming feed. You aren't going to be able to cut things in the roof until you've done this.

Looking at that wiring doesn't provide a lot of information, the cream cable looks like it's running to al alarm or similar in a line grabber configuration.

I was under the impression you could just plug the incoming dsl into the modem, then put a plug in splitter in, plug the voip output back into the phone plug of the splitter and it'd broadcast the phone service throught the house, you'd still need splitters on all the jacks though

I'll hopefully be changing to orcon soon so ill test my theory out then, if that fails ill just use the cordless phones we have now.

Its certainly possible. I can't tell much from that picture either but basically this is how it's done:

incoming pair --> Genius ADSL jack

pair to other outlets --> Genius Phone (green) jack

YMMV ringing 5 handsets, not sure on the max REN but I'd say more than 2 (each phone should have REN on the bottom; add them up) and you might be pushing things. See how you go.

No splitters required, it's naked DSL and the output is just phone. Just make sure the phone jacks are isolated from the incoming pair and only connected to the Genius phone port.

You still need physical isolation between betwen your incoming connection and your internat wiring which is connected to the ATA/voice port.

Too easy! In that case, disconnect the incoming pair completely, and connect the internal pair to the phone (green) jack on the Genius.

I'm interested in the outcome of this.

We're also on Fibre with a Genius. Im not sure of the state of the wiring when the guys left after the install. From memory they did a hybrid install so the ONT has some copper wires in it (not connected to anything).

Now also when they left there was a beige phone cable plugged into the Genius. Im not sure of its purpose and I unplugged it when I moved the Genius (only to forget which plug it was plugged into).

Which leads me to my question, which is the "phone" jack on the Genius?

I assume the ADSL plug is an "input" one where the old copper line shouldve gone.

It's the one labelled "Phone". On the unit I'm looking at, the jack is coloured green. You're correct also that the ADSL jack is no longer used once you get UFB/Fibre, the fibre ONT gets hooked up to the LAN4 port.

Dropping DSL certainly makes it easy!

Can't you just snip the incoming phone line (where the black cable connects to internal wiring), leave all other fixed wiring as is, and then just plug a bog-standard BT-RJ11 cable inbetween any phone outlet in the house and the phone outlet of the genius (or whatever ATA)?

That's what I was going to do but I am unsure what to connect. Once removal of the original copper phone line I am left with two wires that feed all jacks in the house -an orange and an orange white. I have a 20meter phone line cord that I can run from that point back to my genius "phone" port. But.. my phone extension lead has 4 wires none of which are orange or orange white. All I need to know is on my phone line which has yellow,green,red,black which of those wires do I hook to the orange/orange white wires in the attic? I want to be clear so I don't blow anything up :)

If you're going for this method, just disconnect them from the incoming wires, snip the wire so there's no exposed copper (they won't short out), then plug the "phone" jack on the Genius into any phone jack in the house. Done. Provided you don't short any pairs, you won't blow anything up. There is potential to get a shock from ring voltage if you're touching the bare wires, though, so be a bit careful.

Just to go back to the question about the hybrid cable and why its installed / At the time of installation of the UFB Fibre connection your Retail Service provider (RSP) can request that, a RJ45 jack (data jack point) in voice configuration be installed near the ONT and the other end of the connected to your existing (or legacy) phone wireing back @ the ETP (then the incoming copper line is disconnected) - so that your existing Jackpoints etc can be back feed from the ONTs ATA (if the RSP is using them) or your Residentual Gateway's ATA ports / If it is done this way then; 1. if the copper connection has to be restored for some reason (change of owner/tenent etc) then there is no hassel in finding where it has been cut off and where to put it back on and 2. Your existing phone circuit will stay in the same order it was when it was running just on copper.

And one more thing - plse dont cut the plugs off extn cords and try to connect them to fixed phone wireing eg in the back of jackpoints or with connectors, as small port connectors generaly are designed for single conductor and NOT stranded conductor cableing (as is found in extn cords etc) as the mismatch will cause you no end of problems in time as you try (or have to pay someone else) to find the noisey connection
