I recently upgraded to VDSL, I can't find an option within the NF4v for full bridge mode.

Does the Netcomm "White Genius" support full bridge mode?

According to the product manual it does have some bridging capability, I found a copy just from a Google search, one of the other Orcon folk might be able to shed a bit more light on it, but I would recommend just looking for the user manual online :)

The only bridging referred to in the manual I found

Is Wireless bridging, it's not what I'm looking for at all, I'm after pppoe bridge mode.

Before I make the trip to PBTech and shell out $150 for a Zyxel or Draytek modem figured it was worth asking.

See if one of the other Orcon guys comment. There is at least one that I know of who knows the modem a lot more than me.

In the mean time I'll keep looking.

Probably worth mentioning as well that VoIP will probably not work on either of those if you're using the phone

Don't know about bridge mode on the netcomm but using an ATA gives you voip with any old router.

Exactly, between a pap2t and the genius app ive got voip covered without the genius.

Ive already ordered a draytek vigor, I succeeded setting up a dmz between the netcomm and my firewall but its not quite what I was after.

I managed to get my NF4V working in bridge mode. It’s not super intuitive unfortunately.

First you need to find your PPPoE username and password. The username is your usual Orcon one, but the password is random and set in the modem automatically. The easiest way to get the password is to 'unmask' it from the password field of the NF4V using the firebug addon for firefox. Here's a short video that demonstrates the technique http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVkXav70UvU

After you have the password you can put the modem into bridge mode. To do that you actually have to delete the PPPoE WAN interface and then create a new WAN interface, choosing "bridged" rather than PPPoE. When you create the interface it gives you the option of using the PTM or ATM connections, choose PTM. Once that’s done you can plug the WAN port of your router into the LAN1 port of the NF4V and set up the PPPoE connection using the credentials found in the first step.

If it all goes horribly wrong you can start again using the factory reset button.

I've done this now, it's actually very easy. Only problem was extracting the password - Firebug didn't work and I had to use the procedure in the sticky at the start of this forum. It was the 2nd password.

I didn't change the IP address of the NF4v but it doesn't seem to be an issue.

The NF4v is certainly not the greatest router but it's pretty solid (one reboot in 2 months) and I'm sure would do the job for simple home networks. The UI is not very friendly though but the "average" user wouldn't need to go in there.

I was a geek before the word was invented!

Has anyone managed to get bridge mode working for ADSL2 rather than VDSL? Ideally I want my public IP address to terminate on my Advanced Tomato based router.

Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat APAC as a Technology Evangelist and Portfolio Architect. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.
