This morning (10:30ish) my black genius modem dropped authentication all of a sudden. No changes to the modem made to cause it. Spoke to Manila CS and did reboots, factory reset etc but still no authentication working. DSL lock and speed all look fine.

At the moment it is at a level 2, 3-5 day investigation. It seems a long time to be checking if there are auth errors at Orcon.

Any ideas what else can be done? Can I try an alternative modem? CS said I could not as the modem is locked to the Mac address.

Anyone else having auth problems?

It took a couple of days for Orcon to do a port reset at their end which fixed the fault and could then authenticate. I checked afterwards and my 3rd party modem also connected with my login details although Orcon don't support that.

So yes problem fixed. Reported Fri morning and I was back online Sun afternoon. If only Orcon had CS in New Zealand I would recommend them 100%. Once the connection is up its a great DSL service.

Good luck with your connection!

For general information I had the same drop in authentication in May this year. Went through the same painfull Manila CS script before it was passed to level 2 support.

A port/auth reset by Orcon got it working again. So twice in 6 months.

There seems to be a problem with Orcon gear auth faulting.
