Was thinking of trying to get their vast service. However since it's not on the bird that is visible over NZ with a 60m dish, I'd have to get a bigger dish. Does anyone know where I can get a 1.8m offset, or anything cheaper that will work with the Aussie beams of the C1?

You'll need a suitable authorised satellite receiver too.

It's a lot of money, so be sure you really want to proceed down this road and have line of site to the satellite etc.

Isn't the available content drying up significantly over the next year or so too? Sure I read somethign here about that. Is it not best to go the VPN + iplayer/netflix type route instead?

I was not going to bring that up, but yeah, the money spent on hardware is probably better directed to online sauces these days. If we were Europe for instance then there'd be heaps of overspill to be collected, given so many countries are so close to each other. However, here in NZ the beams are pretty direct and there's not that much of importance that we can gain, unless you're into god channels etc.

The OP is referring to the satellite version of the Australian VAST service, which is basically Auzzie freeview. Their satellite content is encrypted though, so it's not as simple as just receiving the signal alone even.

The bigger the dish, the bigger the hassle/commitment levels required too. ie it requires more physical support/restraint from wind etc and you can run into local council bylaws too if you're located in town etc.
