I have a few noob questions about Freeview and I hope someone can help me out.

I was trying to set up Freeview after moving to Rosedale, Invercargill from Dunedin. I currently use the built in decoder on my LG TV, and it was perfect in Dunedin using indoor aerial. However, after moving to Invercargill, it doesn't pick up Freeview; after buying an All-In-One UHF outdoor aerial from Bond & Bond, I can now pick up a poor-average digital picture of TV3, C4, and FOUR, but no ONE and 2.

I checked the aerial is pointed in the right direction, and Rosedale apparently gets a solid signal.

Are Freeview decoders different, could my LG decoder be bad, or are they all the same?

How much of an impact does the cable quality have on the signal? Because I'm assuming the cable from the All-In-One Aeriel was not the best, or I did a poor job of putting the plugs on the end (I was careful when putting the plugs on).

I get analog TV3 perfectly but if I change to Digital TV3 it pixilates a lot, and cuts out. Shouldn't the good TV3 picture mean I have a strong signal?

What would you check next to try fix this?

I'm going to try and re-connect the cables plugs, and move the aerial higher on the roof, then hope for the best.

Any tips would be appreciated.

I'm only in Invercargill for the weekends at the moment, and finding an installer seems to be difficult, the whole city seems to be closed over the weekend.

Make sure your antenna is pointed in the right direction and is Vertical, not Horizontal.

After a quick look at the map, it seems that analogue and Freeview come from different transmitters. Make sure that you're pointing at Forest Hill, and as B1GGLZ says you need to be on vertical polarity (Hedgehope is horizontal).

There's only one transmitter at Forest Hill, and it's vertically polarised (so the short elements on your antenna - assuming it's a YAGI style - need to be orientated up and down).

The easiest way I've found to ensure alignment if you don't have direct line of sight is to find the transmitter on google earth, and draw a line between the transmitter and your rooftop antenna. Find a visible landmark that the line intersects (in my case it was the corner of a house across the park), then when you're up on the roof line the antenna up with that landmark.

Having looked at the same map I would agree.
If you are getting analogue TV3 from Hedgehope Ok then sounds like your antenna is Horizontal. You need to swing the antenna toward Forest Hill and change polarisation to vertical.
Should work OK then.
There will be nothing wrong with your TV tuner. They are usually much more sensitive and reliable than STBs.
