I have just installed MyFreeview supplied by Dish TV. UHF Aerial version. I am unable to record and have figured out that the media needs to be formatted. I select this option and add in the factory password. However an error comes up each time saying "format media failed/cancelled error".

It should be formatted when you buy it. Any recorder I've bought was already formatted excepted my AC Ryan which didn't come with a HDD but was added later.
Take it back where you bought it and get them to sort it out or replace.

Just checking, but does the unit have an inbuilt hard drive (the T1050 does) or do you need to attach a usb drive to it (the T1020 does)?
