Hi Folks,

Just moved off the T-Box as TelstraClear can not give me cable in my new house and am looking to replace it's recording function.

I have a couple of external Hard Drives lying around so am looking for a set top box that i can plug in a drive and record. I have a freeview equipped TV so i don't need to use it for viewing, but would like series record and a decent 7 or 8 day EPG.

Was thinking of something like the DishTv t1020... any other recommendations?

I have a T1020 and a T1050. The T1050 is very good and works well. The dual tuners make it more versatile. The T1020 works well 99% of the time. The only issue I have with it is that some recordings don't stop on time, it just keeps going until I stop it. Worst channel is Choice(12). The other effected is TV3 and the recording of Homeland. It records the first showing fine then also records the second screening on Saturday night but doesn't stop at the end, I come in in the morning to find it still recording.I just stop it manually. Don't know if its a T1020 issue or a Guide issue though I suspect a T1020 issue as the continuing to record thing does not effect my T1050. Over all though I would still recommend it. Hope this helps.

Something i've just seen on the Dishtv web site. They have a new update of the firmware for the T1020. Have downloaded it and installed it. Will let you know if the recording issue has been addressed in a few days. Also I see they have some refurbished T1020's and T1050's for sale. My T1050 is a refurbished one and has given no probs. much cheaper than new.

A MyFreview recorder would be so much better than being stuck with one tuner and external hard drives. The T1050PVR is under $350.

Thanks for the replies. I saw the refurbished Dish tv gear and the 1020 is what I'm leaning towards. the 1050 is just too expensive right now (and i have a few external drives lying around that I can re-use). I was wondering abut the digistar products (although i think they only have a 4 hour epg) or the dtvs boxes. cheers

In my opinion stay away from the digistar boxes, they haven't got MHEG-5 so a minimal programme guide and wont update channels automatically, The DTVS is probably the most stable of all the boxes even though it is a little dearer and has a smaller hard drive

Get a DishTV T1050 lots of utter crap out there, that is my 4th brand but also now have a Panasonic.

Dont deal with DTVS had 3 boxes from them no firmware support and only 2 man company, got my money back, they did not have a clue on how to test for faults, the 3rd unit was suppied from there shop.
