Hi:
Can any recommend a low cost Satellite PVR STB with a reliable series link recording function for use with an external usb hard drive?
Would an Ultraplus 720 HDMI PVR Digital Satellite Receiver be such a receiver?

A dishtv s7070 might be what you're looking for.

Seems to have series link now, a previous model I have has a simple timer, so when programs moved time slots or daylight savings altered the start time the recording times were out and missed some programs.

Thank you so much for the Dish TV suggestion - Now all I need is to hope for a suggestion of the Dish TV vs the UltraPlus or other..

I cant say about the Ultraplus 720. BUT i have the Dishtv s7090 and the Ultraplus x-9200hd. The series link on the ultraplus works to an extent but not reliably. The Dishtv has a reliable series link. AS I say I cant talk about other models just those 2.

HTPC Intel Pentium G3258 cpu, Gigabyte H97n-wifi motherboard, , 8GB DDR3 ram, onboard graphics. Hauppuage HVR 5500 tuner, Silverstone LC16M case, Windows 10 pro 64 bit using Nextpvr and Kodi

have a dishtv t1050 (not satellite) - but series link works fine - hasn't missed a beat in 2 years...

Thank you for the positive reply on the Dish TV units. I'm surprized not to hear about the Ultraplus 720 as I thought there would be heaps of them out there. (which there likely is) Maybe like other Ultraplus models/products you see many software/hardware and distribution issues, so people don't comment. Maybe the model is just not common on this thread. What ever the reason is, thank you for the other comments.

The series link on ultraplus works soley from data from the EPG for whatever reason if the epg data doesn't load then your planned series recording will fail. Have noticed EPG issues on mine since Prime went to Skys transponder.

I think you'll find that any PVR has reliable series link function. If the series link fails to record it will be a problem with the EPG info and not the PVR. Any time my Panasonic HD recorder has failed to record it has been because of the EPG being at fault. Timer recording however always works. Remember the days of VCRs when there was only timer rcording? Then they introduced g-code and other silly functions to make life easier and recordings started to fail to record.

So I take it that the Ultraplus 720 might not be the preferred model so what if we say compare the DishTV 7070r to say the Xcruiser XDSR385HD.. would one of these be a much better choice and recording stable.

Hmm, well maybe not many have had a lot to do with the UltraPlus 720, so how about the Xcruiser XDSR385HD? Anyone?
