I need some help. I'm not very techno but would appreciate some suggestions.

We have an LG smart TV (55In) that we bought a year ago. Unfortunately it doesnt have built-in freeview. We had sky at the time so didnt think about that at all. We cancelled sky a few months ago as we are now on Netflix and amazon. We get this through PS3 & smartTV.

We still have a sky dish and would ideally want a receiver/recoder that can work like mysky. FIFA world cup is arround the corner and would like something that can record.

There is a lot on the market ie DishTV, Panasonic Freeview recorder etc. Can someone recomend something that can work with the Sky dish, PS3 to watch freeview and record just those basics.

Do you also have the option of using a UHF areal for Freeview Terrestrial? Freeview Satellite is very low quality.

Actually, if you bought that TV new a year ago, it MUST have a Freeview tuner in it. Most TV's do not have Satellite tuners (some new ones do) but every TV sold in NZ for the last few years has had a terrestrial tuner in it.

What model TV?
Where in the country do you live?

For Terrestrial you need be in an area with coverage, have a suitable receiver (probably your TV), and have a UHF aerial similar to this

I completely forgot about the recording part of your question. To record, you will probably still need a recorder of some kind. I have no experience with them.

Gulf harbour , Auckland . We have ariel sockets which we tried but probably need free view box because it wasn't working

I find it very strange that a 1 year old smart TV doesn't have a Freeview tuner. Considering analogue was due to switch off soon after you purchased then it wouldn't have been "fit for the purpose" under the CGA. What model is it?

I will post a pic later on. Probably beginning of last year so slightly more than a year. Freeview was not important as we had mysky.

If there is a Freeview logo on the back of the TV it will have a Freeview aerial tuner. There is no need for satellite Freeview over UHF except to watch CUE TV.

For a Freeview recorder you should get one with two tuners and internal hard drive such as the Panasonic models.

Your TV MUST have a freeview tuner. I have not seen an LG smart TV without one.

Not that it matters if you have the Panasonic going.

The TV will almost certainly have a Freeview HD tuner built in.
This needs a aerial on the roof - not a satellite dish.

It wont have a freeview satellite tuner in it - some of those have just gone on the market this year.

LG products are pretty good - I would be surprised if it doesnt have a record to USB device facility as well.

What model is it?
Have you actually read the manual that would have come with it?

If you can received UHF Freeview HD (DVB-T) then for recording I use a Panasonic Hard Drive recorder which I find works well - I think others here have one of these.

If one require using the satellite version (DVB-S/S2 - not quite sure of the standard), I am not sure what devices are suitable for recording (also I think its not HD either - but others can say). I assume that the same Freeview channels are available on both mediums, but again, I have not used the satellite version of Freeview so cannot help here.

As far as I am aware, for recording purposes, the recording device will need to have a freeview tuner built in (or multiple tuners).

For Fifa world cup coverage, I am not sure what will be available on Freeview (either sat or terrestrial) - I have not checked the station guides to see who is showing what.
