I am using a UHF Phased Array 4G ready aerial and metroAMP masthead amplifier. I am in Whitby and am picking up KauKau through a reflection, and although the signal strength is really good ~80% the signal quality is poor. It varies between 20-40% which means that the picture is breaking up. I am splitting the signal 3 ways using a power pass splitter. Any way I could I improve the signal quality?

Have you had an expert in to look at your setup?

Installers a typically not even interested at looking as Freeview say that we are unlikely to get UHF however other people in the area have had good luck getting it via a reflection so I thought I would give it a go. It is pretty windy today so this could be causing the issue with the quality.

Without proper kit such as a signal meter there isn't really anything you can do. Introducing multiple amps into a setup without being able to test signal levels appropriately can easily lead to such issues.

On which channel in the muxes are you taking the readings?

Can you take photo of your setup?

Where are you getting the reflected signal from? is your antenna pointing directly at Kaukau?

you could try connecting main tv directly from aerial ie bypass splitter and see what quality and strength you have, leave amp working I suspect you have high noise levels but its worth a shot.

The Muxes are for KauKau. The Mediaworks mux (TV3, TV4) provides teh strongest signal and best quality. The mux used for Prime is the worst. My aerial is pointing accross the Pauatahanui inlet which is in the oposite direct to KauKau. I will try the suggestion from Bales and bypass the splitter to see what happens.

Everytime you split signal you reduce strength by 3db (half) and introduce noise (reducing quality).

You may want to try a Matchmaster DDA24. You can pick these up from any electrical wholesaler or ask an installer.

These devices split the signal four ways while balancing the output strength with the input and introduce very little noise. You should be able to use this if you are able to pick up freeview on a single TV.
