When Freeview went live we lost FTA TV at our bach in Cuvier Cres. We got by on SkyTV for a while but now the dish is dead, probably the LNB is UV damaged.

I called Sky to get the dish fixed but it's not an area they get to very often and it's going to be difficult to find a time that suits both them and us.

According to the Freeview coverage map we should not get terrestial coverage, but I know of people in other locations who can get FV even though the map says they can't.

So I'm putting out a general APB for anyone who has experience of Freeview in the area.

We dont have a UHF aerial but would get one if it looks like it might work.

Thanks in advance.

how many others have UHF aerials in the area?

chuck your details in here: http://www.matchmaster.net.nz/EnterRequest.aspx
on the "review transmitters" tab you can zoom out and click on the other transmitters and get the hill graph for each one, the te aroha one looks the best but still some hills in the way

looks like you may be SOOL though

There are a few aerials around but they could be left over from pre-freeview days.

Might have to go door to door next time I'm there.

One little trick you can try, in google streetview drive around the location and look at tv antennas in the area. Where they are pointing etc. There appear to be a lot of large older VHF antennas in use I couldn't see any UHF ones.

Another thing you can try, do you pick up Auckland FM stations? or just transmitter south of you?

I thought about streetview too, and I see mostly dishes.

Will have to investigate those skyboxes that receive both freeview satellite and skytv signals.

I think you'll find that all Satellite boxes will receive all the Channels on Optus D1 but you need a Current Sky account and card to decrypt the Sky Channels.

I recently purchased a K1 Plus Android TV Box from China and connected to my Sky Dish. It promptly found something like 126 Channels with no problem when I went through the setup using Blind Scan. It can't decrypt the Sky Channels though. Using FTA scan it found only the Freeview Channels. It has the added advantage of having UHF Tuner as well.

That's the idea. Just shuttle my Sky card from A to B rather than the whole decoder plus cables.
