Dear All,

I have just bought a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-4000 Quad Tuner to watch Freeview satellite... The reason I chose the DVB-S variant is because I have SkyTV and as such have a coax cable conveniently placed next to my system.

I have tried for two days now to configure MediaPortal, My Theatre, and PowerCinema to receive Freeview Satellite channels but to no avail. I have tried on both Windows XP and Windows Vista. Drivers have also been updated to the latest version from the Hauppauge UK site. For the MediaPortal configuration I followed the guide prepared by Regs (http://www.geekzone.co.nz/Regs/3769).

For PowerCinema, I followed a guide online and applied a patch that was necessary for PowerCinema to work with Freeview Satellite in NZ. But it still didn't pick up any channels.

I would like to know, from all the experts on Geekzone, if my card is faulty or have I done something incorrectly? Other information: I managed to get picture from my Sky set top box to the card via the S-Video/Composite input.

My system spec is:
- Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
- XFX nForce 630i Motherboard
- Onboard Audio
- Onboard GeForce 7100 Graphics
- Corsair 2GB DDR2 RAM

make sure you have the LNB settings correctly.

In your Sky box go to advanced settings and check your LNB settings.

You'll either be using 10750 or 11300 as the LNB frequency.

Search, there is heaps of info on this stuff.

Posting your settings might help too.

I have already tried both, 10750 and 11300 per the guide by Regs, but it still didn't pick up any channel. I've also set the Switch to 0 in MediaPortal. Just thought I'd mention that when I try to scan, MediaPortal reports excellent Signal Strength, but NO Signal Quality. I tried to unplug the coax cable, and it showed the exact same thing, i.e. full Signal Strength, and no Signal Quality.

if it is the only box connected to that dish, you have the LNB power set correctly (ie H/V or something similar?).

I use an HVR3000, which uses WinTV instead, but settings should be the same.

Below is what my setting is in Media Portal

I don't have WinTV on this PC at the moment

Just confirm you are only running mediaportal (0.2.3.0) and not the tv-server/mediaportal/tv-client package? Because the advice needed may be subtly different.
The satellite file in mediaportal 2.3.0. (on its own) may not have sufficiently up to date info to properly tune Optus D1.

I have the tv-server version (as does allstarnz it would appear) and it is important that the transponder ini files and the lines addressing them are included in the satellites file (all in tuning parameters'' file) or that the list is updated via the net.

As it turned out, the card is not borked.

MediaPortal TV-Server version did the trick... though I'm not sure why the MediaPortal standard version still doesn't pick up channels.

good to see you have it sorted. Yes, I run MediaPortal server for DVB-T

Another product to try is GB-PVR, which is also a NZ product. I use that for satellite. Find it a bit more stable than MediaPortal.
