Hi Guys,

I bought a HVR-900 today. The sales told me it works with digital TV.

It took me 3 hours to play around with the Hauppauge WinTV software. I download the latest software and driver from Hauppauge. http://www.hauppauge.com.sg/web-content/pages/support_new_xpvista_4.2.html

So far, only analog TV works. Digital TV has channel name, no audio, no video. Beside that remote doesn't work. It very slow when switch analog channels.

Do I have to use cyberlink codec and other third party softwares? Cyberlink power DVD8 US$49.95, DVBViewer $15 Euro. This is almost the price I got the tuner for.

My CPU is quite new. I don't really care about hardware acceleration part at this stage. I just want it to work.

I will try again tomorrow. Not really happy with the hidden cost and the troublesome WinTV software.

OK, I see. I spent $145 and got a half working product. The software comes with the package doesn't work at all. Now,it's up to me to figure it out how to set it up and another $100 to buy the bloody third party software and codec. Plus the analog TV quality is very bad.

This is not acceptable. I am going to get refund. Rather buy a set top box or something easier to use.

I use a HVR 900 for a lot of testing.

The analogue is OK but it is a raw frame grabber card with no built in MPEG2 encoding.

For DTT it works under Linux with the right codecs, but isn't officially supported for NZ by Hauppauge.

Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat APAC as a Technology Evangelist and Portfolio Architect. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.

I have one of these. I use it on a Mac mini running Windows Vista Media Center. It works ok, as you found out, after you use the appropriate software.

Actually ther isn't a good solution for HTPC. There's a Hauppage card with Cyberlink Power Cinema that appears to work natively, but that's it.

New Zealand DVB-T is using a very new standard so it's early days for everyone. A lot of people have it working, but you will need some tweaking, configuration, changes, third party software, etc.

Other than this your best option is a set top box.
