Hi there,

Does anyone know if there are plans for Freeview DVB-S to get some HD channels ?

I'm one of those unfortunates who can't get Freeview terrestrial, but I do get the satellite flavour perfectly.

And if HD is coming to the satellite which set top boxes would support it ?  My Dreambox doesn;t supprot MPEG-4 or HD output.

Regards!

Mark

Short answer is, no. DVB-S is actually the backup plan for NZ future broadcasting to cover the entire country, DVB-T is the primary option. It's just that the DVB-S option was ready to go 1st as it was easier to broadcast and required less new infrastructure.

Not quite true. Both were designed to complement each other. DVB-T will never be able to deliver 100% nationwide coverage so DVB-S satellite will deliver that, it's not really a "backup" option but the primary option for those people who won't receive the DVB-T signal or don't even receive analogue TV now.

The DVB-T platform currently covers 75% of the population with an expansion to 87% of the population planned for the next few years
