Looks like Australia is getting their version of Freeview in 2009

This is really going to mess things up if they do mpeg4 not mpeg2, most of their tv's have mpeg2 decoders in them afaik.
Also that logo looks like its made from wordart.

Wonder if that mreans Mpreg4. Hope so then they can have the same pain as we have here with the system being launched before the hardware is available..

From what I've read there are no plans to change any of Australia's broadcast platform (which is a shambles due to their early adoption of MPEG2 and then trying to broadcast HD as well). The move to roll out the Freeview brand is merely a branding issue and also launching a full EPG - something that has caused plenty of issues in the past.

I also don't agree that we have suffered any pain here in NZ by launching a system before hardware is complete - I'd far prefer to live in NZ at present with a limited range of hardware with the knowledge that within months we will have a great selection of IDTV's and STB's and be broadcasting in H.264 which is a far superior standard in every respect to MPEG2. Just

Australia are stuck with a botched up non standard system and have no real hope of changing due to the huge base of legacy products that exist. The UK is really going to feel the "pain" when they launch DVB-T2 next year!
