Hi there

All of my searching on this topic have thrown up quite a number of threads but about 12-18 months old.

I currently have Sky installed (about 4 years now) and want to purchase a Freeview HD box/integrated tv.tuner and run them of the same dish.

A number of threads have mentioned requiring a twin LNB but that seems to be related to the requirement to receive both H and V channels (and talk of sky moving away from this arrangement anyway)

Can anyone give me some up to date info/answers?

You can't get Freeiew HD from satellite, only from UHF.

You can get Freeview SD from satellite, you don't need a seperate LNB. Just buy a splitter from Dick Smith and run one feed into the skybox and one into the freeview box. The horizontal/vertical polarity isn't a issue anymore, they both broadcast the same but can't remember which.

Damn - now I look at it with that little piece of extra info it's obvious that it's UHF only!

Almost everyone i have talked to about Freeview or Freeview HD thinks they both come off satellite. I don't think the ads saying holding up antennas is a thing of the past helped either.
For widespread adoption i think they need to change this view.

I agree. I think the Freeview advertising has been appalling. They should forget all the gimicky flash advertising of people on the roof and wiping their TV's with window washers - This tells people absolutely nothing - Just put up in big writing "Your snowy picture is being switched off in a few years, upgrade now, get more channels, better pictures, satellite or UHF, go to your electronics store now". THE END.

But that is the problem with most advertising about technical stuff, too much input from marketing people and not enough from the technical people. They just need to tell people specifically what it is, the benefits and how to get it.

i think alot of people will be blind sided in a few years time setting up set top boxes instead of the coathanger they have used with a grin for 20 years.

Couldnt agree more about the useless advertising, I havent met a single person outside the techo/geek area who has a clue about Freeview, and when I have explained that the HD is only of a TV antenna ( I cant even use terrestrial half the time as the have no idea what that means) they think I am having them on.
