Currently I am a TCL subscriber for cable TV. I receive Freeview HD only using a DVB-T tuner and gbpvr but haven't had time to work out the complex configurations to get gbpvr to actually playback the recorded broadcasts. For that I use a Popcorn Hour and for most channels have to record and transcode the audio before I can hear it (apart from TV3).
I need a plug and play solution that doesn't need me to be there and can support real time viewing. The choices are a FreeviewHD STB or possibly the TCL HD STB. Assuming TCL get the licensing sorted out I can't imagine their box being free - something along the lines of an additional $20/month is not beyond the realms of possibility (doubt if they would ask you to buy the box though like Sky). So assuming a FreeviewHD STB is about $350 the point at which the two costs converge is at over 18 months and the TCL box will record.
Seems like a no brainer if I want to watch HD easily but just wonder what others who are TCL subscribers and also capturing HD now think.
Thanks
