Hi. :-) Does anyone know what Philips are plannign to do with regards to an iDTV for the NZ MArket?
I spoke to someone in their Customer Service office a few months ago and was told that there would be something in Oct, and the other day I got hold of a Catalogue dated July 2008, but couldn't find anything relating to an iDTV. I've already got a Philips HDD DVD Recorder and I find that it just makes life so much easier if you stick to the same Manufacturer for your TV and DVD equipment. At tne moment, I don't have Freeview at all, I'm holding out for an iDTV, and am also making do with a CRT TV, so am feeling *very* "old school". (I really wand a flash new Telly, but I don't want to waste my money on something that's going to be obselete almost as soon as I've bought it.)
Also, someone told me that Philps were getting out of the Aust/NZ TV market due to low sales. IS ther any truth to this? Doe anyone know?
If anyone out there has any info for me, then I'd be grateful.
Thanks. :-)

They won't have any IDTV's.

Philips are pulling out completely of the TV market in many markets including NZ & Australia. Basically what is left in stores now are the last Philips TV's you will see in NZ unless they decide to reenter in the future.

Philips LCD's are way behind the competition in NZ in pretty much every way, well both times when we bought LCD's this year and last.

And our Philips DVD Recorder is absolute rubbish. We had an 80gb one ages back, which decided to pack a sad with the timeshift or something. This was replaced free by our friendly 100% manager to a 250gb one, which then had issues with writing to disks. I think it got sent away and fixed, something about the laser, but even after all that its still not easy to use, every time you turn it on it doesnt remember the source like the previous old one did, requiring several button presses each time you turn it on and in general its just bad compared to any other brand in the same league.

The HTPC even with its issues was a massive relief, and then the MySky HDi made things incredibly easy for everyone else in the house.
