HD Ready vs Full HD For PS3

Im Looking to Buy Myself An Hd Tv Before Xmas To Use With My Ps3 Console, What im looking to find out is What the difference between an Hd Ready tv and A full Hd Tv, And Will A Full Tv Make my ps3 games look better than a hd ready tv would. Im asking here because I would only use the tv for Ps3 games, Blu Ray and Dvds.

Here are the 2 tvs im looking at, the full hd tv being $500 more, is it worth it?

For many the HD Ready Set which is 1368x768 would be considered HD since it has the ability to display 720p video without dropping pixels. WHile Blu-Ray movies are 1080p and so only the Full HD set can display that content, at 37" I would hardly think you would notice. Save the $500, get the cheaper one and buy some content.

if it's only for ps3 get the cheap one, as you may not notice the extra 800,000 pixels on the full HD (2 million pixels vs 1.2 million pixels - note approx only). however if you are planning to use it as a computer monitor AND have a graphics card that can support playing games on ridiculous resolutions like 1920x1080, then get the expensive one.

a definite yes if you're sitting 1m or less away from it.
a definite no if you're sitting 3m or more away from it.

of note, the expensive one is listed as being able to produce 15,000:1 contrast ratio vs 10,000:1.
This means that it is able to show darker picture about 1.5x better. (ie more shades of brightness and darkness, but darker pictures have more of a DEfect when the tv or player can't handle it)

if money is tight go with the cheap one. see if they'll throw in anything else for you.

Joker97 and Lchiu7 I think have it spot on with the distance thoughts. When you're in the store you can notice the difference between HD ready 720 and Full HD 1080 but you're about 1m or less from the screen. Typically when you're at home you're a lot more than this away from it. A computer monitor is often less than a metre, but TV's are typically 3m+ away roughly.

I just got the 32" samsung for my general TV and with this I couldn't notice much of a difference at the distances I was looking at. Anything say 42" and above I found was quite obvious in the store, but once again I'm not sure at the distances I normally sit at in the lounge. Sorry couldn't comment on the 37" in between size.

A point to note on this that hasnt already been mentioned: Virtually all PS3 games are in 720p or 1080i, there are basically no full HD PS3 games available at the moment, this may change in the future . So at the moment there will be no difference as the games are only 720p anyway, but blu ray of course would be full HD.
