DSE's Boxing Day sale features 15-40% off everything instore. This means they have NZ's cheapest price on Freeview|HD boxes - only $211.

The new Freeview|HD PVR is also on special at $849 which is a $150 saving off DSE's regular price and $250 cheaper than what you'll pay at most other appliance stores such as Noel Leeming.

The Freeview Tuner at $211 is a good deal. I have recommended to a couple of rels to get one and see if they can get Freeview ok (both have or are about to get HDTV's). If their reception doesn't work, then they can return the units.

BTW the DSE web site seems to under excessive load and won't display pages (noon Boxing Day)

1. DSE website has been intermittant and slow last coupla days, speaking to a guy in store today he thinks its overloaded and that matches what i'm seeing.

2. Picked up one of the $211 jobbies today to install at my MIL's, Mr sbiddle assisted with the installation. Painless. Impressive enough that i'm considering one myself now...

I almost pulled the trigger on one myself but then thought, there is so little HD content that the advantage of FreeviewHD over Freeview DVB-S is minimal and when there is some real HD programming I can record it with a Nova T 500.

My rels didn't get one either - they went for HDTV's with builtin FreeviewHD tuners though these past few days the only HD content they can view is the Poseidon loop that goes on and on and on!

This was for my recently retired MIL who wanted to reduce costs, she had no antenna at all, and was using TCL Cable TV (but watching very little other than FTA) so the next step will be to cancel cable.
She recently got a new TV, LCD Widescreen, so it made sense to get an HD receiver while it was cheap.

Me, my biggest issue is that I don't have a TV that justifies HD yet, so it isnt worth the investment. Yet.

And we still miss Prime TV. Sky are really missing the boat here.
