Hi.

Just wondered if anyone has tried recieving DVB-T signal from up north in New Plymouth?

What antennae/amp are you using, and what signal strength are you getting? Is it reliable, or prone to dropouts?

I've just bought a Dvico TViX M6500A with DVB-T tuner and NZ freeview compatable firmware, and wonder if it's worth shelling out for a high gain antennae. I have a kingray UHF/VHF masthead amp with adjustable gain, will that work OK with digital?

Regards, Allen.

I think its possible, it maybe a case of trial and error.
I remember going back 10 years when I spent some time living in New Plymouth I noticed that Burtons pub were trying to pick up Sky UHF from Mt Te Aroha, using a 91 Element UHF Antenna on a mast around 5m tall, I'm not sure how good the results were but there is Antenna installer there called "The antenna man" who setup a small UHF repeater on top of the TSB building to broadcast Trackside, and you could see just below the transmitter a double 91 Element UHF Antenna pointed towards Mt Te Aroha.

If all else fails I do believe Taranaki is on the "phase 2" rollout plan of DVB-T, there are UHF channels allocated to the North Egmont Transmitter for it

The Antenna man says that a few people have bought pretty standard antenna (half a dozen elements and wire reflector) and masthead amps and are recieving it, but it's all anecdotal and he hasn't done any installs.

I was talking to him yesterday, and he didn't think that Taranaki was even on radar for it's own transmitter?

Regards,

Allen.

Freeview|HD currently covers 75% of the population. A rollout plan to cover 87% was created at the same time as a phase 2 expansion but there is no funding from the government at this stage for that.
