Hi,

Just before Christmas last year I bought a Haute HD3000 Freeview HD decoder.
I must admit, I chose this particluar model because it was on sale at the new JB-Hifi store in Wellington, and looked smarter than the other models available.
I normally pride myself on first choosing functionality and reliability over looks - but clearly appear to have failed with this purchase!

Anyway, what I am experiencing using the unit is inconsistent behaviour using the remote - especially around channel changing. When I press the channel up (or down) buttons, some times it changes up a channel (as you would expect it to), and other times it simply changes up the channel info in the pop up screen at the bottom of the display (whilst not chaning the actual channel displayed on the screen in the background), and sometimes the list of channels is displayed on the screen.

Also, when first turning the unit on, the video signal seems to be not continuously sent out at first. I deduce this from the fact that my projector flashes in and out with the video signal. It doesn't do that from my TelstraClear cable tv settop box (although they are going into different ports on the projector - one is HDMI, the other is component video.)
I can normally get past this by changing channel up and down (incurring the consequent frustrations with the problem described above!)

I have good signal strengh via a professionally installed new UHF aerial & mast head amp.

Is anyone else experiencing problems with their Haute HD3000 unit? Are there any firmware upgrades or configuration tweaks available that may help?

And finally, I am now thinking of getting a second HD decoder: What make/model would people suggest I get. I.e - what works well, doesn't cost the earth, and this time, as a final consideration, doesn't look butt-ugly?

Thanks in advance for your feedback / advice / help on this :)

kind regards Andrew TD

I just spoke to the tech support people at Hook Technologies - who supply the Haute units in NZ.
They were very helpful.

It turns out my problems are "known", andf there is a firmware upgrade available, which I have just downloaded from their website, which should fix those problems.

I'll try uploading that to the unit tonight and report back on progress.

... just in case anyone is interested ...
In the weekend I succeeded in upgrading the firmware on the Haute HD3000 freeview HD settop box.
(After a lot of mucking round trying to find a laptop with a serial port and a null modem cable.)
So far it looks to have fixed the issues I was having - execessinve "flicker" on start up (relating to syncing to the projector/screen) and the remote buttons appear to be working as described, and consistently.
