Hi guys,

Currently have a uhf aerial feeding my panasonic with integrated freeview tuner. The tv reports that the signal reception is 10/10 and quality is 9/10. Not sure on its accuracy... I also have a draco box (sitting in the cupboard) but haven't checked what it reports.

Anyways, I'd like to add some more tv outlets to rooms in the house as we are renovating and extending. My question is, how many more outlets can I add without losing too much signal strength and quality? I'd probably be looking at adding another 5 outlets to receive freeview HD.

Will splitters do or I need an amplifier? (where to put it etc) Will the length of cable run affect it too?

The answer to your question depends on a lot of factors.

First off if you have good signal strength and are in line of sight to a transmitter you could potentially get away with a 6 way splitter providing you are using good quality RG6 cable and F connectors. If you have poor signal strength you may not get more than 2 or 4.

If you have low signal strength an amplified splitter would probably be necessary but without a signal strength meter to test and tune this you can easily make your picture worse if you are actually feeding too much signal into the TV or STB. Cable lengths can be an issue but signal loss over ~20m which is probably the most you'd have in an average house isn't that great.

an attenuator.

12db would be good.

See what that does to the quality bar,and also to analogue prime etc.

If not much in the way of degradation,you should be fine to run another 5/6 outlets

Thanks for the advice guys - might see how we go with the splitters as a test in one room with a few tvs hooked up before getting the cabling up and through walls. Another aerial might be needed for the extension if the signal suffers.
