I have a problem with a Sony 32 Bravia V Series with DVB-T Freeview.

Each time the TV is switched on, it displays this error message for around about 1 minute:

"selected programme is not tuned"

After the minute or so, the selected channel just starts going, and all is well.

Not entirely sure what's going on during that 1 minute period, but guess is that it's re-tuning.

I have checked the signal strength, and it is "High". During that 1 minute period, you can still switch to Sky, or use the menus, etc.

Anyone got any ideas?

A couple of more points:

- the System Information screen says "Signal Level: No Signal" during that 1 minute approx period.
- It's a KDL-32V4000

Mine does that too, but only for 2-4 seconds - I believe that it's simply tuning into the digital signal. Perhaps your UHF reception is a bit naff? Unlikely though, since I've got borderline reception, and I don't see that behaviour.

Entirely possible it's a fault in the DVB-T tuner, you could enquire about replacement, or perhaps borrowing another unit for the purposes of elimination (difficult, I know).

Likewise. I have the same TV and there is a slight delay when turning on. Nowhere near a minute though.

We have the 40" version and the delay is a few secs like mjb's, and our signal is not particularly great.

Hi,

I have the 40inch V series and have the exact same problem Nigel describes. I used to just get the normal 2-3 sec delay before the tuner would kick into life, but now it takes upwards of a minute. Interestingly, I have noticed if you switch to Analogue and then back to digital immediately after turning the TV on, it always kicks into life. But I don't really want to have to do that each time I turn the TV on, so I am also looking for a solution. I may try re-auto tuning the TV, but I can't imagine that will help much...
Any ideas much appreciated.

Hi Nigel,

Tried the re-tuning last night, but still getting the same problem.
It used to start up fine, so I'm not sure what has changed. Has your TV always done this, or just started doing it as well?
I might try a factory reset as well in case I have changed anything that is causing the problem, but i don't think so... The only thing I can think of is that I have started using the on-timer recently, but I get the same issues even if I don't use that, so I think it is unrelated...

If I turn the TV off and then turn it on within 20 or so minutes, I don't get the delay and it starts fine, but after normal gaps between usage it always exhibits the problem now. Is this what you are finding on yours too?

Hi Dave,

The TV's actually at my inlaws' place (out of town), so I haven't had much chance for any fiddling.

I think the short-term switch off/on behaviour is the same.

Hi Nigel,

Some good news - my TV is back to normal!

I gave up troubleshooting in the end and rang Sony. They were not aware of the fault as a known issue and they gave me the number of Tisco Electronics in Christchurch to do a site visit for free under warranty. Tisco updated the firmware via a memory stick and I have since tried it twice with 8 hour gaps of the TV being off and the digital tuner now kicks in within 3 or 4 seconds like it used to!

My guess is that an error occured when it was auto updating. Whatever happened, it's nice to have it back to normal now.

Hopefully you have the same luck getting it fixed with a software update.
