I have been looking at the Vantage HD6000T/NZ DVB-T (Freeview) PVR and was wondering how everyone was finding their boxes.

Would you recommend them? Have you had any ongoing problems with recording to USB HDDs?

And is there any sign of a detailed EPG yet?

Personally, for the money I doubt there is a better value PVR-ready unit out there. Firmware updates have tended to solve the significant problems, to the point we now trust the Vantage to record all our programmes. Still haven't tested too much its ability to record two channels while watching a third recorded programme, but it seems to cope ok with this. A few niggles with the warning messages and ordering of timers (which I comment in more detail at the forum given above), but certainly nothing significant enough to not recommend this product. Personally, I wouldn't have paid the $500 list price, but good to see it back at $300 or $500 for two.

As I asked the question, it is only fair that I report back that I ended up buying one and have been very pleased.

I am having a problem where some HD programming has faint (and sometimes not so faint) dark lines running right through the picture. They are horizontal, spaced about 1cm apart, and run right down the screen.

I am connecting to an HD CRT via component cables and it is set to 1080i. The lines (when present) disappear when set to 720p.

I suspect something is up with my TV but any suggestions?

The worst time this happened was on TV1's "The Closer", but it was present and visible on Home and Away on 3 and Grey's Anatomy on 2.

(Seemingly to naked eye) unaffected programs include Sunday Theatre (Show of Hands) on 1, CSI on 3, and Desperate Housewives on 2.

So far so good.

Scanned and picked up channels without a hitch (which is surprising given how bad our prime service is here)

Seems to Play DivX/Xvid .avi without a hitch :D:D (might answer a prominent question) however as it is upscaling of sorts, the pixelation in low bitrate encodes can be a little more noticable. So its back to XMBC fo me on that front.

The only hitch I have now, is with my receiver that thrives on AC3, TV3 booms in, and all the AAC audio channels are a lower level. Which can bring a fright when switching from low levels to a ex-US 5.1 show. And theres no compensation option in either the STB or my particular amp :(

Yet to find my HDD caddy and do a recording.

Fingers crossed it stays this way. My TV is only a 720p panel (long story, jumped on the bandwagon a bit prematurely) but pic looks awesome compared to -S all the same :)
