Hi Guys, I've just bought a panassonix TH-42PHW6 plasma display. I thought it was a straightforward TV but it has no UHF connection so I guess it's just a very large monitor with lots of connection options. Do I need to get an external TV tuner or can I just go and grab any Terrestrial Freeview box and hook it up via the RCA cables and I will be able to watch TV on it?

Sure. A freeview set top box is really just an external tuner.

Here's the manual (also for the 50") if this is of any help to you.

The display has HD resolution, but it doesn't have an HDMI input, so you will really want to select a Freeview|HD set top box that will provide HD video resolution over its Component video connection. I believe that none of the Freeview-approved boxes will do this, but it should be possible to find a decent non-approved STB that does.

Or Media PC, use the PC input.
Actually some boxes, like the Hyundai AH-3110 I think output a PC signal.
Or yeah, a non approved freeview box that allows for HD via component.

hmm i hope you didnt pay too much for it coz the resolution is only svga! (rather low) component is better as sometimes PC output view has problems with pixel matching sometimes it doesnt fill the screen etc etc

Where did you buy it from?
How did they advertise it? you may have been mislead as it seems it doesn't do what you thought it did.
Try to return it and buy a proper tv with freeview|HD built in.
