A family member of mine is looking at buying an apartment at the Auckland Waterfront as you can see here:

http://www.lighterquay.com/contact.php

But on the website it says aerial reception is weak due to poor line of sight with the transmitter:

Does anyone know how we can check how weak the signal is at the apartment complex at 81 Halsey St in Auckland? Will an internal/external antenna pick up at least tv2 and tv3 clearly?

The wording in the PDF suggests it was written before the Freeview terrestrial service began. If there is line of sight to the Sky Tower there should be a Freeview|HD signal available. They can still watch TV2 / 3 via a Freeview Satellite receiver.

I'm talking about using an analogue vhf/uhf indoor rabbit ears antenna or an outdoor vhf/uhf antenna without freeview.

I cannot see any reason why they would want to watch analogue TV in preference to FTA digital and can only guess they have misconceptions or want to use an anlogue HDD recorder. Freeview Satellite / Freeview|HD receivers can be plugged into CRT televisions.

This link might be of some use. It looks like TV3 and 4 are broadcast from the Sky Tower over analogue. Trying to receive the full range of analoge stations over rabbit ears in that location looks like it may be a depressing experience.
