The c42 to C4 one was even less spectacular, with them just starting the show - twice as nice I think it was.

Would have thought that mediaworks would have at least made something instead of just using feist on sesame street. I also noticed that the proper video for 1,2,3,4 was in the top 100, which made me think WTF. it was not a remarkable song or video, probably just the name got it in there.

Not wrong!
More of a forgettable song than anything else, and probably even less interesting to their target demographic.

What a surprise with Thriller /sarcasm

I hope they can give C4 some more bandwidth (satellite), on a 50" plasma could see plenty of pixelation

on dvb-s they broadcast 720x576i display size of 1024x576i aspect of 16:9 25fps mpeg2 @ 3500kbps VBR audio mp2 192kbps CBR

dvb-t they broadcast at 720x576i display size of 1047x576i (witch is wrong should be 1024x576i) aspect of 16:9 25fps h.264 @ 4500Kbps VBR audio he-aac 128Kbps VBR

satellite dishes only have a certain amount of bandwidth there decoder can use same with dvb-t but dvb-t can use more bandwidth

so they have to even it out among all the channels

and you think c4 bitrate is low in the uk four music is broadcast 528x576 16:9 2400kbps mpeg2 25fps mp2 128kbps lots of there channels over there are broadcast like this on free to air dvb-s and vh1 in russia is 480x576 25fps mpeg2 2000kbps VBR mp2 192kbps CBR

there are a lot worse satellite dishes dvb-s channels then these i have said there are some with even a mpeg2 bitrate as low as 1000kbps

over all i would say mpeg2 dvb-s c4/four is better because audio is better and the screen resolution is correct and other the dvb-t/dvb-s the quality is about the same but you can notice it better on h.264 dvb-t

Yes, you're right, Four's satellite rate could be worse. A lot of channels overseas drop the resolution so that they can save bandwidth. It hasn't happened here on Freeview yet.

Unfortunately there is no minimum standard for broadcasters to adhere to. It looks even worse on Sky after being re-encoded.

I was watching the end of Wipeout last night.  It was horrible.  Jaggged and really bad motion blur.   This was on the SkyHDi rebroadcast and upscaled for the TV

yeah sky could be broadcasting even lower bitrate then freeview dvb-s

could even be broadcasting 544x576 because there is so many channels on sky

Time to upgrade from MySkyHDI to Freeview satellite to improve channel "Four" quality I guess...

The new logo is crap! its far too big and the choice of color is not the best. But why did mediaworks re-brand the channel? I assume its because its no longer going to be broadcast on VHF and its not actually channel 4 on sky but it is on freeview isnt it?

If sky wants to save bandwith, they could close that accursed preview channel (channel 0) which plays movie promos and the same MySky promo over and over again. It is in good quality, but I doubt anyone watches it. Shutting it and redistributing the saved bandwidth would be a good (and zero cost) move for them.

I know about it because on about 1 out of 4 recordings I book on my box (Pace 230) it records that dammned preview channel instead. I understand this is a firmware bug was supposed to be fixed "by Christmas" - but is still happening.

Does anyone watch the preview channel - ever?
