Hi,

Looking at the Panasonic website and they now list a MyFreeview HDD with 3D Bluray player and 500GB storage. Model DMR-BTW700GZ.

Is this the replacement for the DMR-BW880GZK?

From the description it looks like 60 second forward ad skipping has been enabled... it's in the features list. http://www.panasonic.co.nz/at-home/entertainment/blu-ray-products/blu-ray-players-recorders/dmr-bwt700gz.html

Could this be the best one yet?

Yup - that's the replacement.
It's not only a DLNA server, it's also now a DLNA client too - which is nice. The server side is cool, it lets you stream recorded Freeview shows to other DLNA devices (TV's, laptops etc).
It also runs Skype (you have to buy a camera of course) and apparently there's a great codec support, but I'd always want to try that out before buying it...

probably a mistake. i dont see any such option. there is dedicated time slip button but thats only 10min intervals. there is no dedicated ad skip button(60 sec) like the one in 1st generation.

Has anyone managed to make the ad skip work on the previous model by using the remote from the un-approved one that came out before freeview approved them and put in the MHEG EPG?

like i said ,probably its a mistake on the specs page. you cannot skip ads with 60 sec intervals but can fast forward as usual.

If it is any use, I ended up going for a BW850 last year because of the ad skipping feature, before I purchased the BW850 I programmed a harmony remote with an Australian BW880 and tried it out at my local 100% store, the ad skipping feature didn't work on a NZ BW880.

When I purchased the BW850 I used the Harmony remote (BW880) and the 60 second button worked fine but the 10 second back didn't work.

So my guess would be that a programmed 3rd party remote wouldn't enable ad skipping, it may be disabled at a firmware level.

Lack of the 60 second ad skip function was the main reason I didn't buy the BW880 (that and an inability to receive one of the terrestrial muxes). If they have re-enabled the 60 second skip, I would be interested in purchasing if the price was right.

Probably keen up to around $1,000, which isn't implausible for a post-Christmas sale, but wouldn't pay more than that.

I wish someone would figure out how to enable MHEG5 on an unapproved (=un-crippled) box......

Would be good if they didnt cripple them inorder to use the freeview logo on them.

Panasonic were one of the worst early on with DVD regions, so I guess that just reflects what they think of customer focused features.
