Hi,

Anyone had experience moving from DVB-T to DVB-S location with a larger TV (55 inch)?

I know the numbers.

Anyone experienced the stepping down?

Do you just get used to drop in quality?

How does a HD TV handle any up-scaling?

TV is an LG 55LD650.

How close are you sitting from the TV?
Will your DVB-S box have an HDMI out?

All I can say if its ch3 you watch most of it will be like going from dvd back to vhs.... :(
we have just got freeview hd down here and I liking most of what I see , not geting that mpg comparison noise that you see a lote of on the satellite.

I would still sooner get the blue ray disc for any movie I sit down to watch as its nice to see all the movie.....

I sit around 5 metres from my 50inch pana plasma. I have both dtt and dth fed by hdmi. When switching at this distance, you have to really focus to see the difference. If I get closer to the tv it's like night and day, but at this distance, I can live with it. The biggest loss for me is the dolby 5.1 when on dth. Advantages of dth are the ability to get more channels than just freeview ones and the faster channel changes on mpeg2.

Hope it is not quite as bad as going back from HD to VHS.

Watch a lot of HD stuff on whatever channel it is on.

Sit at about 6 to 7M from the 55 inch TV, maybe the drop in resolution will be very noticeable.

Am actually thinking of moving from Napier to Nuhaka.

Apparently no Freeview DVB-T in the Nuhaka area.

Have been wondering if a high gain yagi would get enough reliable DVB-T from Mt Erin 150k away.

Make sure you get an up-scalling DVB-S box, and from the distance you plan to sit...
You should be 'okay'. But if you sit close, it won't be great.

Do you have line of sight? I'm 120 km away from Te Aroha and can get it from there, although I see that Mt Erin's transmitter power isn't as high as Te Aroha's.

This might be starting to veer off the Freeview subject, but...

I have looked at MySkyHDi and that would seem solve the HD issue.

It looks like Vodafone offers a total package too, which I will look into.
Phones, MySkyHDi and Naked DSL.

The move to Nuhaka might mean that I drop from ADSL2+ to ADSL.

I will be looking for other package options.

I feel the pain Gorby; am in the same position going from T to V. I can't jusitify the spend of MySkyHDi so that just isn't an option. Break out the VHS!!

The Vodafone deal doesn't include a free HD upgrade (for sports and movies) does it?
