Hi everyone,

We have a new TV and a satellite receiver - Dish TV S7010PVR Satellite Receiver.

When the guy installed it he mentioned that we could get Australian channel SBS on it, which we can (YAY, I am an Australian just recently arrived in NZ).

Someone just told me that you can get more Australian channels other than SBS "if you get your satellite receiver up right".

Can anyone shed any light on this - is it true?  If yes, please tell me how?!

Thanks!

Poppy

You need a DVB S2 receiver Dish S7090PVR to receive Ch 9, Gem and Go. Your receiver will not do it.

(If you have a card slot)

You can also get Aussie Channel 7.  Northern Territory feed I believe.  It's a real micky mouse setup though and clained to be illegal. Just why I've never quite figured out... but you need a card. Maybe the card is illegal?  Nor where you get one, it's like buying sly grog back in the 60's. Ask in a hushed voice!
Prices seem to vary from $50 and up.   And they might work for 5 mins or 5 years!

I tried to buy one 'legally' (even wrote to Ch 7) but no luck.

The Dish TV S7010PVR doesn't have an irdeto card slot, so this wouldn't work. It's illegal because the cards are only sold to viewers in rural Australia and most of the cards that would be for sale would be illegal copies.

don't mess with me.... i'm the hd insider....

The S7010PVR won't receive SBS1 in HD either, and it also lacks HDMI. Are you outside the Freeview|HD broadcast area that you're watching TV via the dish?

A DVB-S2 receiver costs $$$, especially if you want a double tuner PVR model with internal HDD.

Ane be wary of some brands - particualy the Dish 7090. We had two of them - both the same problem. Playback bad...  intermitant shourt bursts of pixelation and audio squeals. Mainly used it for the news and Shorty St and there's wasn't a day in over a fortnight there weren't problems. It wasn't recorded though - you could skip back and it was OK the second time.
