I have a Sony Bravia kdl-40v4000 LCD with built in freeview hd. I have a lot of variation in audio level between channels with tv1 very loud tv3 very quiet and the others in between

Is there anything I can do to sort this out? It's freakin annoying while channel surfing

Have you tried setting the audio on all channels to aac rather than ac3 Dolby? Sony don't seem to have applied the correct Dolby level in their tvs. Maybe a software update will help. It's all good on my Panasonic.

don't mess with me.... i'm the hd insider....

Go to Dynamic Range > Audio Set-up, in Digital Set-up, change “Standard” to “Compressed”.
