xarqi: Freeview is a cypher. It neither produces nor controls content. It neither owns nor controls transmission.
It came into existence only to give the guise of a unified FTA system to foster take up at their own expense by the public.
It is a brand with no substance. It does essentially nothing. Who would buy it? What use is it?

Well put

Anyone got a space ship? If so, could you please fly up the D1 and move some of those Aussie transponders to point toward NZ.

Re: SBS HD and SBS One, SBS TWO Channels brodcasting on OPTUS D1 (NOW GONE)« Reply #7 on: May 07, 2012, 01:31:14 PM »SBS is now fibre fed to Tasmania from Melbourne with the ABC mux.  The satellite feed was costing SBS too much and the government is cost cutting.

The story with nine last year was that GTV-9 had moved operations at the beginning of the year to central Melbourne and put up the sat feed on one of the networks leased SNG TPs as a backup while their new fibre feed to their transmission site was being completed.

They do control transmission and certification. If you try  in the case of Auckland to transmit from say Sky Tower  on a non Freeview mux then the FV certified TVs and STBs can't pick up these channel..

Well, arguably they control reception, for those who choose to buy a hobbled receiver, but that is different from controlling transmission.  Certification?  That just guarantees that you get a hobbled receiver.

The problem now with DTT it's nearly imposable to buy a non hobbled receiver.

Good point. I guess since I'm unable to receive DVB-T, despite being in suburban Auckland, I tend to think in terms of DVB-S - already a poor-cousin of DVB-T, with no HD nor any prospect of there ever being HD.

Agreed.  The only reason I bought a Sat STB was for the SBS channels.. Now they're gone..

Sky channels are looking awesome in HD Tongue Out

I have noticed that TV1 is running quite a bit more HD material at nights lately, and the pictures look pretty damn fine!

tau123:
Was the Tasmanian feed on D1 a backup link for SBS like CH9?
I see SBS is on C1 but encrypted. Bugger.

almostly:
Well, that's that then! only left with Freeview now....damn shame, just as we were gearing up for the Giro Italia and The Tour de France

Oh no... SBS 1 and 2 are my favorite channels on Freeview. Love all their shows. Dateline, Coast, European movies, football games, Luke Nguyen, and other cooking shows, and of course the world news. Awww. Gutted!
