SuitedScooter:
xarqi: Is the on demand content HD? Does it carry ads? Can it be downloaded and stored for replay?

I signed up for a VPN through a company called Witopia and that system works (NZ$9 pm) but the OnDemand system detects that the Witopia system's connection speed is pretty slow and therefore feeds the program at a really poor quality.
...
I'd be interested to hear other reports of VPN suppliers and their costs.

You need to use a better VPN service.  Astrill lets me stream from the SBS website at 1000kbps, which to my eyes looks akin to reasonable SD quality.  Not as nice as the HD we were getting from the satellite, but beggars can't be choosers...

Pick of the bunch for video streaming is BBC iPlayer, closely followed by 4oD (both from the UK).

Prize for the most rubbish quality goes to iSky!

Thanks for that info. $9/mo + traffic at $2/GB for poor quality video (assuming my downlink speed is even up to it) isn't spinning my wheels unfortunately. I'd be keen to learn of other peoples experiences though.

Astrill costs me NZ$8 per month on a 6-month sub.  Quality is definitely NOT poor, if you have the right VPN!  With BBC iPlayer it is better than watching the same programmes via Sky's satellite feed.

ok so I guess there are no satellites that receive sbs currently as its all underground. I did have a Chinese satellite box that received sbs via another satellite cannot remember what it was called though (Interstat?? Euro....??). Undecided

Anyway can someone search 'sbs'  trademe is anything there viable?

spiral.

on a positive note, the TV has been off more times then not! Smile  However I really miss sbs documentaries, football, world news, and the foreign films were better then Rialto! http://www.sbs.com.au/films/on-sbs.

We posted simultaneously before.  Thanks for your info too.
$8 for "not poor" video sounds better than $9 for bad, certainly.  Still, it's infinitely more than 720p for nothing at all. :(
Sigh.

You can still get SBS in NZ using an ordinary 60cm Sky dish but;
you need a fairly recent Sky dish with a twin throat LNB that points at Optus C1 as well as Optus D1),
the signal is scrambled so...
you need a set top box that will take an Aurora Irdeto card
you need an Aurora Irdeto card (one off payment of not very much)
and....
The Aurora service will be phased out by the end of 2013.
I got all the kit I needed off TradeMe.
(You will also be able to get Ozzie Channel 7).
This has all been discussed at length earlier in the thread..

"Suitedscooter" ... now that is a name from the past !
are you the same person who had a web page for a certain tv tuner with a certain chip on it ?

hehehe.... was wondering whether I still had a copy of the website and realised that it is actually still live as a sub-site of my business's site:
http://theislandscomputerguy.co.nz/suitedscooter/skytutorialfaq.htm

since SkyUHF is no longer in operation, I guess it doesn't matter if Sky find me now.

Having been Red Carded from viewing the European Football, I still resist Tommy Smythe with a "Y" and
continue to watch all games one way or another.
Now there is another venue, at least for Sports Fans that don't want to be Murdoched. It is our very own Bookie.
http://watchandbet.tab.co.nz/
From my understanding you will need a TAB account with money in it to watch this service. Not suitable if you are a problem gambler. *viva the revolution* ===========<() BAAAAAAAARP!!!

Oh! Bother! It is a pity that the viewing screen will be no bigger than what is seen on the intro page, so even on your 50" Plasma it is still going to look wee.
I admit that is all I know, I am just out of Rehab and have not relapsed into another Account ... and will not be swayed unless a BIG viewer is offered.

That is a pity indeed.
However, looking at their schedule, after many years of deprivation it looks like I may be able to enjoy live Dutch football once again.  This makes Floydbloke very happy.Laughing

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

Hi, i am a novice at this so forgive my ignorance. I receive feeds from Optus D1 and D2, missing my football. I do get to watch highlights of Eredivisie voetball via BVN. I really miss SBS!!!! How do you get your sport reception without having to deal with the Murdock crowd? Any help would be much appreciated.

I guess everyone is a novice at this, it's a new service from the TAB.  Start at watchandbet.tab.co.nz  and if you click on the 'watch and bet now' button you will get the page with the schedule and links to the live streaming games that are currently or shortly showing.

I was just browsing through the schedule and noticed that they will be showing some of the Dutch play-off games so I'm cautiously optimistic that we may see some Eredivisie games come August.

You'll need a TAB account with some credit to access the live streams though and, as mentioned above, it's rather low-res and there is no full-screen option on the player.

I hadn't heard of BVN but have just had a quick glance at their website.   I've got a Sky dish on the roof and a freeview sat decoder.  Does this mean that I should be able to watch it?

Yes I get the same message. I retuned my STB recently and was unable to recieve SBS 1 and 2 after that. Have been tearing my hair out trying to fathom what I did wrong, makes sense that they are off air.
