I installed MP tv server and client (snapshot 17872) onto my main PC (dual core 6300, 2GB ram, 7950GT, Hauppauge 3000).

It works well with DTT while watching programmes but fequently loses audio when I change channels (then I change up/down and back again and it works - usually). It also seem quite easy to break if I am not careful with it - like using the AV in planes.

How bulletproof do you find MP tv server/client with DTT and LATM ACC? I haven't tried the stand alone version - is that more stable?

Or am I just not tweaked properly?

What version of the AAC decoder are you using? V 9.0.0 seems to be the most stable, V9.1.0 introduced some problems with audio dropping out and V9.2.0 doesn't seem to have fixed this fully either. I had no such issues last night using V9.0.0

My understanding is the standalone doesn't support H.264 or LATM yet, only TV Server.

Please come to the MP forums an dreport your problem, MP Devs work with the Dev of the monogram AAC decoder to get such issues resolved.

According to Igor's blog at least some of these issues were fixed in 9.2.0

Thanks for the replies.

I will check the version tonight (I think I am on 9.1.0).

I am still just playing and testing so am happy to wait for a while until I build a new HT system. I plan (still changing) to have a stand alone TV server with twin Hauppauge T500 cards and either NMT (e.g. popcorn hour) or PC based extenders at the TVs/monitors. I am keen to achieve a minimalist look with only the screen (and maybe speakers) visible.

Is it just me being paranoid or has nobody actually said how robust they find MP?

As I said before, if you find the sweet-spot with MP, I can imagine it works wonderfully. There are some that swear by it. But it requires a lot of patience and tweaking to find that sweet-spot, and for those that want to be able to get up and running with a minimum of fuss, and never (or rarely) have to bother again, there are better alternatives (depending on what type of functionality you require in a HTPC/PVR) - IMO.

6 months ago I would have agreed but now i think that it is a viable solution. I havent done any further tweaking with MP or TVServer since install - just been playing with my video card settings.

The main thing with MP is that it is also a great media player for other videos, music etc. If I could get this functionality in another PVR type app I would be keen to give it ago but from what I have seen nothing else can do this well apart from Windows MCE.

Are you using it with DTT? If so, what version of the AAC decoder are you using? Yes, it would be nice if Microsoft would deliver a product that worked for us. I bought vista specifically to play with media center and was really annoyed when fiji did not come in sp1.

I have also tried GB-PVR but went back to MP for audio. I really like what sub is doing with the popcorn hour (which I joined the queue for but am not expecting an invite for about a month).

edit: how do you deselect the icon?

Yeah I have a HVR3000 and have been able to run both DVB-T and DVB-S. I also run an ATI 550pro for Sky via s-video.

I'm using the version that was included in the SVN which I'm pretty sure is 9.2.0 - I have had some issues with syncing but I think it may be video card related, closing and reopening MP fixes it and it only seems to happen once in a while.

I tried but I it didnt work.

I had all three cards set up with DVB-T as first priority then sky then DVB-S but it only tried to get the EPG via DVB-T from what I could tell.

I'm using xmltvnz from Reven which is all good.

I would be keen to get it pulling down from the DVB-S though. If you want me to test just PM me.

The ability to record (or stream to multiple PC's) multiple channel's on the same MUX with a single tuner card is a seriously cool feature to have

So the new Nvidia card is going well for you? I'm having a lot of issues with smearing on analogue MPEG2 stuff with my ATI HD2400 so I'm thinking about making the change myself.

There is a fix for this issue, I had it with my X1950PRO - a swift bit of google will see you getting rid of that smear with a few registry tweaks.

yeah I have added the trdenoise reg key and the rest but its still not that great. Plus I will be able to compare the two and see which is best by having one of each. I have always used an ATI card for my htpc x500,x700,x1300 and now hd2400 and everytime I go searching for fixes to my variuos issues I always find posts that point to nividia being better.

Plus why should I need a bunch of reg tweaks just to get a good TV picture.

I spent about 2 hours playing with MP last night. First up when I got home it refused to work after a resume from suspend depite working perfectly the night before. MP couldn't find my TV server and even with a few reboots I could't get anything working. A complete uninstall and reinstall and things were working again.

After configuring it with my cards I'm definately impressed with it's features but did experience several crashes. I don't think I've ever had GB-PVR actually crash once for me while I've been using it. Since H.264 seems to still have a few small issues in GB-PVR I've just got my MCE150 running off that at present and have my Nova T 500 running into MP on the same machine so will see how things work over the next few days.

I've been told that the H.264 beta upgrade for Vista MCE is now "imminent" but Vista was imminent for about 3 years as well! :-)

I find MediaPortal it self to be very robust, TVServer however is still in beta, constant work is being done on it so it's stability reads a bit like a stock exchange graph! However in saying that I've been using it prime time for more than a year and find it to be stable enough, espically in last couple of months. It also depends on whether you can resist upgrading to the latest patch every other day even though you've got a stable system, if you can't resist then expect to see some issues as development continues. IMHO features the outweigh the occasional frustration. And WAF is very high which says a lot for any PVR!

I upgraded the AAC decoder to V9.2.0 and ran MP TV server/client for several hours last night. I didn't try everything but did swap channels frequently, timeshift back and forth (trying to break it) and played pre recorded video (and used stop/start/pause/rewind/fast fwd) and it worked without a glitch - very impressive.

I was mainly watching tv1, tv2 and tv3. CPU loading was in the 40-60% range on both cores. Previous testing with GB-PVR had tv1 and 2 in that range but tv3 ran in the 90-100+ range. Has tv3 changed it's stream? Is MP able to show me the stream info?

Channel change times have also improved (or is this better with tv server vs MP1). Anyway, I am getting 4-5 secs which I can live with but would prefer better. My old plasma took about this long and the 1 sec my new lcd takes is something I am reluctant to give up. What is the cause of the delay? Is it the tuner or will a faster cpu help?

As far as viewing - tv1 and 2 looked good but 3 was a bit choppy (is that the right word?). It was subtle but I found it uncomfortable/tiring to watch for extended periods. I would not want to watch sports like this. I tried the interleave options but it didn't make much difference - anything else I can try?

With those sorts of figures for CPU load you obviously don't have a video card doing hardware acceleration. This is something that is a virtual must for the H.264 streams.

I found channel changes on MP to be very quick.
