I have been looking at the Specs and features, they do seem to be very good

Caspa is just one way to buy movies, but other devices have their own apps. eg Sony Tvs have quickflix, apple tv has the itunes store etc. Caspas problem is content, and it is possibily a rights issue, as to why they don't have a big amount of content on it. I just think of caspa as a bonus, but you don't need to use it. Other PVRs don't have anything like caspa anyway. The tivo is a good device.

I went from a Magic TV 3600 to a Tivo - best move I made. Specs wise the Magic TV is better but for usability and especially the Guide the Tivo wins hands down.

Freeview MHEG-5 EPG - Yuck!

Yeah the native Magic TV EPG is actually great, but it has to be dumped in favor of the MHEG5 offering here in NZ.

There is a specific thread on here somewhere about this device.

I would give it a "tolerable for the price" rating.

remote is ugly as, remote sensor on the box is rather insensitive like most of the cheap chinese pieces of gear (why cant stuff be as good as the mysky one?) - The UHF passthru seems to have some noise added to it and its locked up a couple of times with the picture and audio still working but the remote having no effect on the box, or the front channel buttons.

Looks somewhat similar to the tivo epg, but perhaps more features and prettier.

I should have said that I am using a Logitech universal remote with mine so I cannot comment on the 'out of the box one'.

I like the Panasonic BluRay recorders - being able to rip to disc can be quite handy, but personally, I prefer copying shows over my network to my Mac.
The new ones can have an external HDD added to increase the storage, and the analogue inputs are sweet for copying shows from MySky...
Pricey, but they have dropped in price too, which is good.

I'll be interested to see how Samsung's BluRay recorder works out for 2012? Reliability / lack of functionality dogged them for 2011, so 'version 2' may well be better?

The DMR-BWT720 is the new model. Does it have the same recordings over network ability via DLNA as the previous models?
