I removed the longest remaining element and it may have resolved the reception issues. No picture corruption in the last 24 hours.
We were getting really bad corruption of video when two overlapping programs on the same channel were being recorded, plus the odd glitch or two in the middle of other shows.

The neighbour's reception was fixed by AscotTV fitting a DishTV "Band Pass Filter 2" similar to this which implies out of band interference (or overloading) was the problem. She has a Gizmo compact UHF/VHF antenna.

cool makse sense. When I think about it....you are in the 'thick' of all radio tx/rx comming off the port hills!

I have been having picture break-up problems with my Dishtv 1050 PVR, since about that time last year, been questioning them about it for a couple of weeks, and they are saying the same band pass filter is required..

I have a problem with that - my TV (sony bravia) doesn't have the break-up problem, only the PVR on playback.. mmm...

Also, $50 for a device which similar ones in the UK sell for 8 pounds is a bit steep (and I cant find anyone else who sells them).. I will wait until the April switch off to see if it improves..

I have a UHF aerial in Shirley, with coax directly into the PVR..

The Sony probably has band pass filters built in as it uses VHF (analogue) and UHF (Digital) tuners whereas the Dish most likely doesn't and can't handle strong VHF signals on the UHF tuners.
Problem should disappear at end of April along with VHF TV.

Strange though that the problem only surfaced in October 2012, when the VHF analog stations have been there since we got TiVoHD about 2 years ago.

Since I last posted we have still had a little picture corruption, but lots of problems with recording (on TiVoHD) overlapping shows on the same channel, mainly loss of audio. I'm going to fit a VHF attenuator tomorrow, so it will be interesting to see if the overlapping recordings issues is related to reception. We did have these problems in the past but they went away...I must check to see if my posts on the issue were at the same time of year.

Actually it was December 2009 we got it.

We are still having minor reception problems.
I only just got my VHF attenuator back and fitted it yesterday, so I don't know if it has made any difference. I haven't yet gone to the effort of shifting the aerial around.
Is see the neighbour down to right of us has just had a phased array antenna installed down at gutter height, I must ask what their reception is like.

I have been experiencing the exact same problems (with the mediaworks mux) since about the time of the frequency change last year. Reception had been fine scince day dot prior to then. I'm up the hill in Cahsmere. It's actually not working at the moment.

I am using Windows Media Centre & have a dedicated UHF antenna - RG6 cable. Every few weeks or so it plays up for a few days. Mostly in the evening although thats when I watch or record most shows so hard to tell. Grrrrrr will keep an eye on this post and try fiddling with the Aerial yet again in the mean time.

The VHF attenuator made no difference. Plenty of breakup on 20/20 recorded Thursday night. I plugged the attenuator in halfway through the show. There was the same amount of breakup before and after fitting.

Good idea.
I'd still be inclined to replace your antenna.
You may have removed all the VHF elements but it's still not a dedicated UHF only antenna.
Was the attenuator you installed the DishTV band pass filter?
An attenuator is not the same thing as a band pass filter.

We let our TV automatically scan and store all the digital channels over the weekend - now we only have a small handful of channels! Not sure what happened there but several times over the weekend TVNZ channels (One, Two, and OnePlus1), and 4, and a couple of others, had no signals whatsoever.

Did anyone else experience this?
