9600GT should be ok if you are using windows media center. With mediaportal it may be a little borderline.

The hardware usually comes bundled with some tv viewing / recording software, but generally people don't use it and they install htpc software.

You should consider:

Mediaportal

To view the tv you'll need to use hardware decoding (ie make the video card do the work) because your cpu is too slow to decode the video.

It's a little bit cheaper but with postage and exchange rate....

Nicegear are waiting for new shipment that may take several weeks. Maybe it'll be this one. Seems to be different styles too, one looked a bit 'double decker' with 2 Belling Lee connectors; another (later model?) has one F connector.

I think you'll find that postage is free. Save yourself $45 and have it in 4 - 6 days - just an option for you.

I'm busy setting up an HTPC. Just bought an old computer with an E6600 CPU, 2GB RAM, and an 8600GT. It works well for TV, but I haven't had a chance to test movies yet. I'm more worried about the 1080i/mkv stuff. It's using a Hauppauge 2200 (dual tuner) and works very well for that. HOWEVER, the Hauppauge cards are very sensitive to noise. If your signal is weak or there's interference, consider another option. As it is, I had to buy a more shielded aerial cable because it has to run parallel to some power cords. It's THAT sensitive.

WMC works very well. Install some codecs if you'll be watching movies. I like Sharky's. Media Browser is absolutely out of this world as far as browsing your shows and movies. The paid add-ons are also excellent, so consider them (they're pretty cheap really).

^ ur setup will be fine with 1080p mkv stuff, as the 8600GT can handle 1080p compliant mkv easily.

Just going back to the HDHomeRun device, after talking with others, maybe my assumptions are wrong?  Will this allow recordings in the 1080i resolution, or just stream them for viewing in 1080i ?

Thanks.

PS. My router has 4 ports, one of which connects to a switch and lets me connect other devices for DLNA.

Will need another switch to let me connect the HDHomeRun... is this likely to present any problems?
