In Karori, line of sight to Mt Kaukau and just using a cheap Dick Smith indoor aerial in a bedroom, because it was too much hassle to get the wired connection extended. Works just fine.
semigeek: I use this on our 55inch LED and the picture is crystal clear. I got it on special though for $24 awhile ago. We have a 42 inch hooked up in the dining room to an outdoor aerial, and the picture quality on the indoor one matches.
Is this a passive aerial or does it need a power feed??
Just for interest, in an old place we were renting the TV aerial blew down one night and the property manager said she'd get it repaired quick-smart as it was the landlord's responsibility to provide a working aerial. This particular landlord was always a bit reluctant to spend any money but the aerial was fixed quickly, so I'm guessing the property manager told her she was responsible and had to get it fixed. Now I don't know what the actual law is, but I'd imagine that most landlords would see it as being their responsibility to provide a working aerial and they'd pay for it as it's part of the house.
I have one of the aerials from DSE that you were looking at. It's not been used in a couple of years as I run a HTPC and don't really watch anything off TV anymore (plus where I'm living my HTPC is no longer the main tv in the house and they've got Igloo)....Sooo if you're willing to take a chance on something that may or may not be working you can have it for the cost of postage (as in you send me a large courier bag and I will send it back to you wrapped up to avoid breakage).
I've plugged it in and it powers on and all that but I can't get a reception with it. I know it is working at least as when powered off it totally removes my ability to search. So I'm leaning towards a faulty input on my tv since this did have a cord rather brutally yanked out at one stage of it's life (didn't realise anything was still plugged in and sadly it was the aerial port that was when it was moved and nearly resulted in a dropped Plasma).
I can attest that when it was used regularly it worked well and produced a good picture (except in heavy weather which pretty much effects all Freeview viewing via UHF).
Up to you if you want it or not flick me a PM and I will give you my contact details if you're interested in taking a $10 gamble (rough guess at a largish courier bag). :-)

They are not legally required to provide any TV service, although I'd imagine many would like to have either a UHF aerial or a dish on the house as it may reduce the chances of attracting good tenants if it is not possible to watch TV there. I have no idea what previous people did at our place if they didn't have Sky as there is no old analogue aerial either. It hasn't mattered much as I'm always going to have Sky for the sport anyway, but since Sommet has started I'd like to be able to see some of things they are screening. If there is an aerial then landlords are legally required to repair it if it breaks, like any other fixtures of the house.
