Optus D2 sounds the winner, I was hoping for news channels, I like watching news.
I can't see the Western Horizon, I have a massive range of hills directly behind my house not even 1km away.
At the moment it's on C1, I've never moved a dish before, is it hard to re-adjust to D2 without any funky equipment? I have a satellite finder, some little cheap thing you put on it with a analog meter on it, came with the dish when I got it but I paid to get it installed which was $400 as the guy had to drive an hour each way to get to my house. I'd rather avoid that to adjust it if possible.

If you can just loosen the bolts that attach the dish to the pole, then move the dish a little to the left and watch for a reaction on your satellite finder. My dish is easily accessible so I was able to attach a TV which I could see from the dish (I setup the STB to scan for one of the D2 transponders until I could get a lock). However, I would wait until SBS disappears if I were you!

When you say a little to the left, are we talking millimeters, centimeters or a fair distance?
I have a TV right near the dish, as a matter of fact its on the wall directly behind my TV and there are big windows so I can have someone stand there and watch the TV as I move it I guess.

A couple of cm to the west (left as you stand behind the dish), and also need to drop the elevation down a few mm closer to the horizon.
If you put your sat meter in line, move it the approx amount, and you should start to get a reading. From there, scan in some of the transponders from D2 (how you do this depends entirely on your sat box), and you should find the Optus Tuning channel. You can then tweak the dish alignment using the signal strength meter on your sat box.
EDIT: PLug your address in to dishpointer, and then change sats between C1 and D2 - you'll see the difference in direction you need to aim

Just a few millimeters (about 5 degrees). You can get exact measurements here; http://www.dishpointer.com/ It's a good web site and will superimpose the direction on a google earth picture of your property so that you can choose an object in the distance to point your dish at. Don't play with elevation and skew (keep the same as for C1) until you have done your best with direction.
I have just done a scan on D2 and can confirm that Press TV has gone (as pointed out above). I found an Indian pop music channel (MTunes) amongst all the crap. My Aurora Irdeto card doesn't seem to unscramble the scrambled channels.
I setup D2 mostly to get BVN (the girl friend is Dutch). Otherwise RT is the only channel on D2 that I ever watch

Ok so I thought I would have a tinker, I did a scan on D2 using my C1 dish, it picked up SBS and Channel 7 on D2 and now I have those channels on C1 and D2 using the same dish without moving the dish, it didn't find any other d2 channels though???? Only the aurora stuff.

You told your STB that you are looking at D2, but you are still pointing at C1. SBS and Channel 7 are not on D2.
phrunt: ahhh ok, i did a blind scan. I see how it works now!
If you add a D2 transponder in your STB settings (say Frequency 12608 H , SR 22500 FEC 3/4), then scan for the transponder - then you would be searching for D2.
I'm using a Sky dish that I have re-positioned. The Sky dish has the oval LNB with 2 units inside, one of which is offset to point 4 degrees to the left. From Sky's point of view this is so that they can switch from D1 at 160 degrees to C1 at 156 degrees. I'm using it to point at C1 at 156 degrees and D2 at 152 degrees.
phrunt: yep nothing comes up for D2 so I'll have to wait and re-position, I was hoping being a 90cm dish it might see D2 without being moved.
It can only see the satellite that it is aimed directly at, and this needs to be accurate to within mm for a good signal. It's completely different to say receiving TV or radio transmissions from different sites on the same antenna.
Yeah the names in the system are just profile names. You can pick any profile and either blind scan or enter the correct TP info for the satellite you're aimed at. Point is the names are just names, and depending on the age of your satellite box the info they have against those satellite could be out of date anyway etc.
As above also, you have to be physically aimed at a satellite before you can receive from it. Just selecting a satellite from the receivers list doesn't mean you will receive it.
You have to look at coverage maps/signal strength charts etc to see what satellites you stand a chance of receiving, and then the strength over your location determines what the minimum size dish you'll require. There really is quite a bit to it.
